Hi Guys

I'm trying to help my son's girlfriend and her VW Beetle window. We've looked on web, seen YouTube etc but can't find an answer. I’m hoping that I may get some help here.

The driver's window stopped going up and down and an initial web search indicated this was the regulator and a repair kit was duly ordered and fitted. This lasted seconds only, the cable in the motor driven drum got mangled. It was assumed that it had been fitted wrongly so another was bought!!

We fitted this second regulator kit this evening, only to find that it makes a lot of ‘graunching’ noise when driving up and down. Even with the door panel removed and no window to lift the whole thing doesn’t move smoothly. The cable goes tight and loose, depending on the direction the motor is driving.

I’m at a loss what is wrong and would appreciate some suggestions and am anticipating that someone on here may have the answer?!

Thanks, Steve

When you say repair kit do you meen the type that only contain the plastic clip/followers for the channels ?
You need to change the cable as well as they kink and are then useless, TBH i allways change the whole plate and never use the cheaper ones from ECP, they are made of chocolate and melt after 2 uses, the only option is another (full plate) with all the mechanism attached.

Yes replaced the cable (it was pre wound in the kit) and it was moving up and down nicely, so screwed in the motor and the window back in place, hooked it up to the switch and it sounds like it's broken again-not sure if the motor is an issue at this point?! It seems to be worse when you wind the window to the very top or bottom....
