What is it about a white car?
Discussion
I've been in company cars for twenty years and won't pay extra (plus the tax) for optional colours, so tend to alternate white and black.
The shape of a car will really determine what colour works. My XC60 was the bizz in black, tho I prefer my white 3 series to other colours. Some people tell me white is safer as it stands out in the day, others say it 'disappears' in fog (don't they put thier lights on?!?), whilst they then say black stands out in sunlight, tho gets hit when parked at night.....no pleasing some people eh?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder folks?!

Interesting replies and I ask because there just seem so many about.
I was staying at a hotel on Sunday night and there was a meeting of 'suits' Monday morning.
All the cars there were white, mainly Audi, BMW and Mercedes.
I guess I'm also interested in why white, or any other colour, is so popular. White is not a new invention.
How does 'it' become fashionable? Why does white appeal to so many people?

I think the Mk5 Golf Gti in candy white was one of the early adopters of white and helped make it cool again.
Before that, the trade hated white and resale values were less for white cars.
Most people order white these days because their neighbours have got a white car.
Thing is, white cars are just done to death these days. White Audi, tints and satin black alloys....yeah!

I've always liked white cars even when they're not in fashion and as I don't buy new I'm not trying to save money.
I've had 4 white cars so far (2 at the same time):
Mk4 Golf
Leon FR
911 Turbo Cab
Laguna Coupe
Can't see any reason why I'll change my mind - have had plenty of other colour cars (quite like grey too) but will prob always like white........

we had to pay an additional cost for our transporter sportline to be in candy white with gloss black features over the standard black or silver.. white cars generally seem to be more exclusive, even on basic cars.
as a detailer i would honestly say its the next best colour to silver for holding the dirt and grime, you can hardly tell until you wash a panel, then it hits you in the face with just how much dirt is sat on the surface! tho accompanied with it hiding a vast majority of marks scratches and swilrls make it a fantastic colour on 'most' cars. i don't think il ever own a black car again. white has its downside in that tar spots are very visible once they stick to the lower panels and can be a pain to keep on top of depending on the amount you drive.
i also agree with red coming back into fashion. just looks so good and out of the ordinary especially on the higher end of the car spectrum!

One of my cars is white and I chose it new because it suited it and it was a "free" colour. Saying that though, I wouldn't have chose white purely as being "free" if it didn't suit the car.
What I do resent though is paying for a different shade of st colour on new cars - its almost an enforced cost for new cars £600+ for a different shade of white or a different shade of silver. If I'm paying for paint, I want it in my choice of colour. Incidentally the new car I've ordered has metallic black, albeit again at "no cost" and it looks good.
