It should have been left back in the 80's. White looks awful to me. Cheap, nasty like a big fridge.

I resent that! biggrin 80s white FTW! cool

Current propensity for white is all about fashion imo. I wouldn't be surprised if the popularity of the iPhone is a contributing factor.

In my case no extra cost option.

Only two other colours on offer that I thought a Punto looks better in, black (I already have a black car) and red but I intend to run it into the ground and don't like the idea of driving a pink Punto in five years time.

Nothing else in the colour box I'd pay extra for so white it is.

I've always loved black and white cars, many many years before they were fashionable. The crowd will move onto something else soon, then you can moan about those instead.

Its also almost always a no additional cost colour.
Which is my director has a white Tiguan, it was the cheapest option and he didn't really want a company car so went for the cheapest but most suitable one.

I was always a fan of my 6 series in white, seemed to suit the lines well.

I think white is so much more popular now because of it being standard (unless I'm wrong) on many cars, and especially you see it on Mercs and Audis. Got my GT86 in white simply because I'd never had a white car before and I thought it looked good, it is pealescent.

Reading this and it suddenly occurred to me that one of mine is white, obviously not something that stands out as a key feature of the car for me...

Still, at least it isn't silver.

Most preferred the above in blue, but not me smile White is the perfect colour for some cars the WRX being a case in point. Naturally opinions vary, that's just mine.
I had one of them in silver 15 years ago. First thing I did was change the wheels to something other than gold.

Maybe I'm always one step ahead of the crowd.

Not one white car sold in 2004? Seems unlikely.
Seriously?

Do you not think that perhaps it's included in... 'Other'?
I was being mildly facetious, my point being that the pie charts are not especially informative.

I used to have a white fridge and a white van. Colour match of Appliance White rattlecan was great for both. Now have a silver fridge and a blue Ford Focus with a Transit engine.

New SL loos best in white. Black hides most of the shape detail and silver and grey are just too boring. I could do red, but white just suits it so well to my eyes.

Personally, I've never liked white, or red, or mid/light blue. (I wonder, if subconsciously, it's a hidden hatred to a particular nation...?) Nah, not that, too boring looking for me, and too common. I HATE silver for the same reason. However I do like black as although it is just as common, on the right car it looks mean!

White cars are more economical in sunny climates.
Allegedly proven and due to less power required from the air conditioning compared to a dark colour.

Good for wedding use also but the 3 white vehicles I have owned (Mazda 323, Toyota Hilux SR5, MB 308D) probably counter that.

I never did get the hang of the discus at school.

It's not something I like to talk about either......

Plenty of cars look good in white - and here's the important bit - when they're clean. Equally plenty look awful. I'm convinced it's a fashion thing - and it will eventually change. Hopefully soon.

The problem with having a white car (IMO even more so than a black car) is that even a small amount of dirt ruins it. Driving a white car is a bit like wearing a white shirt to an Italian restaurant and ordering spaghetti. It only takes a small amount of road grime to make the car look neglected. Notice how no-one posts a picture of a dirty white car? The reality is, especially as we head into winter, most won't be clean, and won't appear a fraction as good. I know - other colours show dirt as well, etc.

I don't think I could ever own a white car, because I'd never stop cleaning it. It was frustrating enough with a black car that just looked a bit 'dull' after a few weeks. But never say never...

But do they? Or do they look good despite being white.

A Porsche 911 Turbo for example - it would look good covered in dog crap, so its hardly surprising it still looks good when the owner forgets to spec a paint pigment. it's an example of a car that looks good irrespective of colour, so if you see a good looking white one it doesnt look good just because its white..
