My Westy (red top on twin dellorto's) had a fabulous overun sound track, but I had people telling me I could "tune it out". WTF!! Why would I do that!

I saw a new Lamborghini Huracan on the King's Road the other day. The driver was being a wazock, waiting to let the cars in front stretch a gap adn then giving it real beans for fifty yards.... It sounded brilliant though. Properly made my day, sad as that makes me! LOTS of loud bangs

We put a sequential gearbox in a 1967 Alfa Sprint GT running a mapped ignition system and 45s on a Twinspark engine. At first we used a simple ignition cut to allow full throttle upshifts while matching the revs.

Of course the carbs kept throwing fuel in regardless so we got a four foot flame out of the tailpipe on every upshift which looked brilliant but mindful of potential short exhaust life and bore-wash we swapped the car to fuel injection so we could cut the fuel too.

My E36 328i used to a little with the standard exhaust, that got even louder when it went to an aftermarket backbox.
Now with the M3 backbox it does quite a lot and just loud enough for me to hear.

My Sigma powered Caterham has many rice crispies under the bonnet on overun.

I can also confirm the R53 Mini does it, but only the ones after the 2004 facelift I believe.

My 2014 Lotus Elise S pops and bangs on overrun. It has the TRD airbox and Stage 3 exhaust though.

Sounds nice, and is rather addictive. evil

Most TVRs. My Sagaris certainly did when it was standard, but less so when I had the Racing Green FFF2 head and Syvecs ECU fitted as the Syvecs is just so more efficient at fuelling than the standard ECU, so less wasted fuel to explode on the overrun.

As mentioned in that other thread, one of the 8 selectable maps on my Syvecs does add the pops & bangs back with a vengeance, but I rarely use it.

All depends on what exhaust system is fitted and weather the car is decatted wink

Doesn't need to have a decat to pop and crackle.

I think the R53 Mini Cooper S did that. The later turbocharged ones did not.
The R56 certainly did. Especially so with the JCW exhaust! Pretty sure the F56 does, too.

My Fiesta ST185 (Mountune) used to pop and crackle on the overrun - sounded bloody fantastic for a small engine.

The Megane 250 pops as standard once it's hot enough. Get a downshift right and you'll be congratulated by a loud pop/bang. Combined with the wooshing sound from the exhaust it gets addictive!

The hotter they get, they louder it becomes. Downshift into overrun makes for some impressive snapping sounds.

True, but it helps especially if you also want flames to pop out the back wink

V8 Vantage sometimes does it on the 1-2 upshift, especially when the engine is not completely up to temp.

R56 S did a lot from standard then they changed the Map on them. I'm guessing so the JCW popped more. My R56 GP loved to pop and bang at any chance !

F56 do as well even the coopers now and again.

To be fair you can get R50 Ones and Coopers to pop with some hard driving wink

Pretty much anything on carbs or with a badly calibrated fuel injection system will. smile
This^^^^

In fact, most manufacturers of production roadcaes tune it out deliberately as only people like us would enjoy it and the below-average man in the street would start freaking out and thinking the car was breaking down.

For cars with mappable ECU's you can ask the mapper to put pops and bangs back in, on the overrun.

Our R56 Clubman S did all the time - more so when you selected Sport mode.
