over taking someone is the ultimate insult to someone's manliness, worse than taking a st in their wife's mouth or flicking their moustache.
The only way to get any manliness back after being overtaken is to keep up with them no matter much faster than you were doing you need to do, flashing your lights adds extra manliness by showing you have high-beams and you know how to turn them on

Does you car have Xennons with washers, and did you use the washers?

When I first got a car so equipped I got a similar response on country lanes. It wasn't until I was following someone I knew one night when they later asked me why I kept flashing them.

Every time I washed the screen - and lights - the light cleaners which came out on stalks - made a dense mist which interrupted the light pattern giving the appearance of a flash.

MK 5 Astra Sports Hatch if it helps.

I've had this before whilst driving the 2.8TD SWB Pajero. Cruising along at 60, gaining on someone in front doing around 45-50, at about 11 at night. Perfectly safe to cruise past (On the A35 between Bakers arms and Slepe if you know it) so I did as braking and getting that thing up to speed again uses diesel.

Person I overtook flashed like mad and sped up to stay on my tail. Fine, doesn't bother me at all... I actually think it's laughably pathetic as I get it a lot (loud exhaust probably screams fk you at everyone).

Turned off a couple of miles later and they followed me. Thought that's a bit weird, so turned into a road that only really goes in a 1 mile loop unless you live down there, they followed me right the way round and back out again.

Right OK... bit of a blessing being in the Pajero now. Led them into a village I know very well and turned off down a green lane. Their Rover 25 made it about 100m before beaching itself and I pootled on down to the road at the other end and went home.

fking jobsworths.

That is my dream way to deal with these acensoredeholes. I know a nice lane that once they'd "fallen" down the first step, they wouldn't be able to get back up OR out of the other side. evil

It's simple. Overtaking is anti-social and downright illegal in some peoples eyes. rolleyes

Lots of drivers forget to dip when they've been overtaken, just flip the anti-glare toggle on your rear view and forget about them.

And this is why I have bought a front and rear full HD camera setup for my car.
As have I. It was initially because I've been the victim of insurance fraud. Now, it's fantastic for keeping baboons in works vans from tailgating when they spot the camera and the sign saying they are being recorded.

Suddenly, sitting 3 inches from your back bumper as they redline the works transit, talk on the mobile and smoke a cigarette is a bit less appealing.

At least when in the UK, flashing is contextually understood i.e. "After you, sir....oi, copper ahead......get out of my damn way.....hello.....there is something wrong with your car mate(mate..ress)....see if you can guess what it is.....can I chase you....your lights are not on....." All context dependent...We British are clever. Over here in China flashing is only really used for "Do not think of pulling out, I'm coming up fast and do not intend to brake until I am right up your arse and you can no longer see my headlights!" (accompanied always by either a 5 second horn blast or a series or 5 x 1 second short blasts) Then it is all ignored and forgotten like a goldfishes memory! If therefore it was used for anything else, complete confusion, anger and bh-slapping would likely follow.

Take comfort in that flashing is therefore a cleverly used form of communication in the UK!
