What do you think? I'm no stranger to nice motors but just fancy a bit of a keeper that won't devalue over time that I can play with at weekends. manual box, not rag top and fast are the criteria, as well as sub £12k.

Find yourself a good condition, well maintained E46 M3 or 996 Porsche.

Been looking at m3s, you can have a belter for 10 k. 996, hmm.

A fairly obvious suggestion: E39 M5 (provided you can cover the running costs).

A Carrera 2 is an itch I've wanted to scratch for some time, but an E46 M3 is an awesome thing. I'd have one in Laguna Seca blue and fit a Geoff Steel carbon air box with a map to suit. Oh and CSL wheels. wink

The best E36 M3 I could find for me I think, or perhaps a 944 Turbo. A Silver Rose would be nice if I could get a clean one within budget

So I was on track already then judging by the replies. I think it will be an e46 M3 then.

I found the E46 M3 a bit dull as a weekend car. I would suggest an S1 Elise with a hardtop - more special, cheaper to run and probably the best steering and handling in the world...;)

I agree 911 (993 or 996) is the way to go...

I've only ever driven a Sport, and loved it. How much difference is there in road driving terms to the standard model?

First thought was a Cayman but not sure what's out there at that price and they're still likely to depreciate.

I'd be on the lookout for an M3 or 996, but it'd have to be the "right" car.

^^^ Thanks. Don't blame you, they're pretty special
