Nope. 231hp rear wheel drive and never ever got it sideways unintentionally, certainly not 'a few times'.

As I say, if your driving is so inept that it happens to you unintentionally then maybe something much lower powered, front wheel drive and easier to handle is the answer until you start to get the hang of anticipating road conditions?
If you actually drive E30 325i instead of E46 330Ci you would realise E30s are renowned for their tail happy behaviour in the wet.

Lol mate everyone can get out of shape unintentionally eg camber of the road causes back to step out

It's a Sport mate
Recognise !!!!
Only heroes drive Sports
I can honestly say I have never had the back step out due to road camber. Even on cut slicks, on wet roads. I'm guessing it's a lack of heroism on my part?

The road has a kink and in the wet is slippery in the E30
At the kink the back end steps out where in any modern RWD car would most probably be fine
I think is due to camber and / or low grip surface
First time it happened caught me by surprise but I comtrolled the drift
Now I am a little cautious there
In the dry lots of grip on that road

I bet someone had dropped some diesel on the road aswell.

Is this thread still going?

I think the weight of opinion would suggest, OP, that the majority of people on and off Pistonheads would think you looked like a chav going sideways in your Essex boy 3-series. Innit.

OP, are you just attempting to justify your own heroics here?

Certainly sounds like it.

There is another sideways thread on here by someone else
Seems pHers like to bash others but sxretly indulge in some sideways action

Or maybe just lots of abuse from Quattro / lowly fwd drivers !

It's an E30 there are not all driven by chavs ! Some people just got good taste innit :-)

Yes I'm sure they are a lot easier to get the back end out than the Ferrari or the Tvr's I've had in the past.

Yes, by me. But I was simply asking if PHer's often saw other cars doing it, as personally I never do. I had not realised this thread had been started at roughly the same time.

You, on the other hand appear to have started two threads specifically about BMW E30s drifting on the road, which appears to be a thinly disguised 'do you think I look cool doing this' kind of thing.

It does read as a bit childish. I note you stated you were in your 30s, had you have not said that I would have guessed 18-19 with your first RWD car from your posts on these two threads.

If you had completely excluded the marque and model from your posts, it would have read a lot differently IMO.

It's much easier to get the back end out in an E30 than a Griff. Trust me on this, that's how my E30 died frown

From a distance, and if there were no other cars or people about, I'd probably smile.

Close to me, or with any other vehicles or people in proximity, tt.

E30s drift alright in the wet
In the dry TVRs / Ferraris have massive advantage because lots of power
Drifting in E30 then you can drift anything mate including TVRs and Ferraris :-)

I have an E30 320i which I converted to M30 3.5 (M535i 218bhp) with a super short locked diff and serious rear negative camber (not intentional), I've also driven E30s for nearly 10 years including many years in a 318is (still miss that car frown) and a 325i touring which I also converted to M30 3.5. I've never ever ever had the rear step out on me during normal or spirited driving, even with the M30 boat anchors which have the (BS) reputation of ruining the handling and making it more unstable.

I'm no drift pro by any means but I'm not a stranger to a "sideways" E30

Exactly the same. You'd be trying to find out what people thought of you. Comes across as a little narcissistic.

If you had instead have asked, "What do you think when you see another car going sideways on the road"... that's a different question. It's anonymous. It's not about you, therefore it doesn't look like you're trying to find out how others percieve your antics.

Just my opinion on the matter anyway.

I wouldn't say losing the back end unintentionally is "inept". It might be irresponsible to push the car that hard on a public road but it certainly isn't inept; if you push hard, it can and will happen.

I'm sure this will go down like a lead balloon on here but if you're on a quiet road with enough visibility to be very sure you can't hit anyone should it all go wrong, I don't see the harm in pushing hard enough to encounter the odd partially unexpected slide.
It can be nothing to do with 'pushing hard' or whatever. I used to own a big Volvo, '88 740 saloon, with a manual gearbox. It was terminally unbalanced, in that all of the weight seemed to be at the front. This was coupled to a live axle, squishy suspension and slim tyres. It wasn't a fast car by any means, but would slide about all over the place if the weather was even slightly damp. Even at low speeds. I got used to counter-steering at roundabouts but it came as a mild surprise the first time.
