Yes, but you can apply for an "alternative import tax" which always pays off with old nuclear-engined barges.. which I intend to do.
I thought they only really allowed that when it benefited them? I know a friend got screwed over an extra £8000 when importing a car from the US as they decided to use the alternative method rather than the normal one? Also surely those prices are not considering Norwegian labour costs, where an oil service is often over £100 for example?

The prices quoted was in Germany, the place to go for a big service anyway. You can choose between regular tax calculation and an alternative individual calculation which will be much more benefitial for this sort of vehicle.

I'd say you want to remove the VIN and Engine number references incase someone decided to clone your car but given its a 7.0 AMG S-Class, I wouln't have thought the risk is too high hehe

To also add, you sir, are rapidly heading towards hero status for me! I only wish I could find one here, if only so I could do the Pagani Engine Mod.

Thanks to tvr1 being an idiot highlighted by the cringe thread I found this, awesome car.

Please update when it arrives.

I went to the jaa auction In Tokyo and bought 2 cars. While I was walking around I went to the top floor of the multi story and found it was full of mercs, bms and audi. Thought they will be out of budget ( I'm a fking idiot) walked back down without even looking.

Only when I got back and looked at the listings in more detail and saw what prices they went for then found out I wouldn't have had to pay import tax just vat ( I'm a fking idiot)

Still kick myself to the day frown

Wonder how much this would go for being a 2001.

Definitely not owned by the japanese Mafia obviously.

How easy is the process? How much are the import costs after you buy/win the car?

Looks great the car you bought.

I would love to import an ek9 Civic.
Its virtually impossible, so Id forget it. How will you arrange internal transport, storage, deregistration and loading?

If you overcome this hurdle (and I couldn't now, despite having imported scores of cars from Japan in the past) then youll be looking at $68+surcharge (10yrs ago) per cubic metre for shipping then 10% duty on the cost of the car, disbursements and shipping with VAT on top. You will then need to pay an agent to clear the car through customs.

Beautiful car, but the mileage is 85500 miles, not 75000.

Agreed, that s70 looks impressive as does the G wagon. The 456 with a towing hook pre attached is a bit worrying!

Both Porsche and Mercedes have production codes for Japanese market cars in both right hand drive (Porsche C18) and left hand drive (C08)!

As mentioned earlier, LHD has an unfathomable cachet to the Japanese. Taking Porsche 968s as an example, there are far more LHD cars there (or were) than RHD, with the LHD models being split between Japanese market cars and other LHD market imports. RHD Japanese spec models are probably the rarest type.
