Also, admittedly my parking was similar to something you'd see in the bad parking thread - it was a hard spot to get into - the part of the car she hit was technically in the bay she was trying to park in - could this be used against me if we went via insurance?
This will go 50:50 if you put it through your insurance. She will say that she thought the space was empty and vacant (it wasn't, you were parked across two bays) and she didn't realise this until she bumped your car.

Utter nonsense! Stationary car and she drove into it. 100% fault.

Happened to my wife last month. Sitting stationary in traffic and a black RR Sport reversed out a lane into her 11 month old SLK.
Guy didn't want to go through insurance. I phoned up MB and booked it into their approved body shop. Quote for £1k for small dent on rear arch.
Phoned the guy up and gave him garage details. He paid over the phone direct to the garage and wife's car was fixed before the end of the following week.
Fairly painless (for us not him £1k bill)

Hmm guy in black RR sport pays 1k which to him is probably nothing against young girl just passed her test to whom 1k is A LOT of money.

Just go through insurance and save yourself the potential bother.

THREAD UPDATE

Forgot to come back to this one!

She didn't want to pay (Quoted £360 by a reputable body shop I've used before)and wanted to go through insurance.

At which point her dad stepped in, realised how much more it would cost her long term and offered to pay upfront.

Its taken a lot longer than it should have but finally its all sorted, with my car being repaired this week.

Sensible father. £360 is getting off pretty lightly by the sounds of it.

I agree. As I was reading through, my personal bet was that she wouldn't want to pay once she found out that, shockingly, it's more than a couple of quid and that the OP would get burned after trying to contact his insurance far too long after an incident.

Half right, but very glad common sense has prevailed and you've got it all sorted!

Unless I could manage to get a quote for the repairs and have the cash within 24 hours (maximum time to notify of accident), I'd go down the insurance route. It's just too much bloody risk/hassle/expense for something that's not your fault. If your insurance is seriously affected, I have also read about successful claims for uninsured losses, such as the additional premiums the accident caused you..

Did you actually read to the last page, or just the first one?
