When I buy a car the first thing I do is to take it to a local chap who does a full interior and exterior valet. My W124 was grubby on the inside, and smelt slightly of smoke, but it came back as new - these merc interiors are really tough but this doesn't stop them getting grubby.

Does that Include the rear bumper as that's different to the saloon's I think?

If you struggle to get a good TE for yourself I may be Interested In the bodykit myself. smile
Yes, it is the correct Touring kit.

I couldn't possibly sell it though, the obsession is getting stronger by the day.

My daily is a C43 Touring and I have a S123 that needs a bit of workwhistle

I think a 124 will fit in nicely....

I love my W124 - brilliant build, comfort, ride quality and classic looks. I often think about selling but not sure what I would go for. It is a brilliant passenger car...

The car looks a peach, and those colours make it. The Cat C will hurt it for a dealer, but will make less difference for a private sale.

Properly cleaned, fixed and fettled, I reckon you'd get 3K for that. I'd certainly consider it at that sort of ball-park myself, and they have a strong following generally. Some other posters are under-estimating its appeal.

ETA - actually, with that spec, I reckon the market would pay 3.5 - 4 all day long.

I think you're more on the money than some others on this thread.

The chap who specialises in W124 would have that up for £5-6.5k. I don't think the Cat C effects the value to much as cars with that spec, milage and condition are like rocking horse st. If someone likes it they will pay that.

I would blank out your registration before someone relieves you off the car and sends it out east!

How does knowing the reg number make it easy to steal?

I got £1900 for my W124 from a trader. It was an E300 diesel saloon auto with 50k (all genuine), J registration. I would phone up a trader such as Cheshire classic benz, Mtsv and Charles Ironside (going by the tax disc holder they may know of the car). I would imagine it to be worth around £800/900.
If that was recent then you sold too cheap. I'm with mr De Gaulle. It's worth 3k minimum if it is not rusty. 800 won't buy a lot of 124 any more unless you have a lot more cash to spend on the body, suspension etc or strike gold with a local pensioners car.

Google Street Map. Start at Lands End and work your way up.

Fix the faults. New speedo is dead easy, 20 minute job.

Prepare it properly. Throw the body kit in the bin (or sell it separately).

Take time to advertise it well. Full description, comprehensive information, sensible order of that information, remaining faults identified but not laboured, appropriate language, attractive photos (take them during the golden hour with a wide aperture).

Do that and you should get £4k.

Or don't bother and get £1,200.

This is the ad I did for my 126. The photos aren't there any more. I think it is a good ad and I got a much better price than I expected. I'm not saying it is perfect or the only way to do it but it worked for me. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1986-Mercedes-Benz-500-S...

The (new) driver's side wing looks to be a less-than-perfect fit at the bonnet/'A' pillar.

Even with a Cat C hanging over it. that car is worth well north of £3K, IMHO.

Well, everyone's comment's are extremely welcome and have given me food for thought.

I've sent a few email's across to someone I know who is a professional car valeter/detailer along with some picture's of the car and he's given me a run down of what work he would to the car Inside and out ,which would take approx two day's to complete.

I think I'll be going down this route of bringing it back to as good a condition as I can along with repairing the speedo and giving the mechanical's a good going over, though at the moment these seem to be very good.

I'll start a thread on the car In member's ride's section when I get It started.

Thank's again for everyone's advice so far, I'm sure I'll be asking lot's of question's In the next thread.
