40 and drive a new BMW 320D MSport. I have a 2010 Corvette Z06 with 505 Hp in garage for weekends. 0 to 60 in 3.7 secs hitting 60 mph whilst still in first gear. However no one dares race me so I actually have more fun spanking cars in my 320D. I have read loads of forums on diesel vs petrol and chuckle as most simply don't understand diesels. I now have huge respect for them and can tell you that I am shocked at how many drivers in cars which on paper are more powerful. I beat a 330i, Porsche Cayman and few others. Let me explain why.
Car journalists have to abide by same techniques when they test cars especially 0 to 60 times and therefore hold the pedal down till the rev hits redline and shifts (if auto or they shift if manual). If you google BMW 320D Torque curve you will see that max torque is at 2700 rpm and then drops off a cliff and max Hp is close to 4000. Therefore you are wasting precious seconds by taking the needle up to 5500 redline, almost 3 seconds as a whole when you factor changing 4 gears to get up to 60 in the 320D. So what I do which was very strange feeling at first is to shift up at 3750 rpm and do this as quickly till you get to 4th gear and 5th which in the 320D are monsters.
I'll tell you about the 330i. He was wavinvg in and out of traffic behind me on A3 so I knew he was a show-off and light up ahead turned red. I was behind him and he was looking at me in his mirror and revving. Light turned and he peeled away but I was on his tail. By second gear he was half car length ahead but I stuck to my guns by shifting up at 3750 even though your tendency is to think you'd get more power by taking it to redline. By 3rd gear I was on his bumper and as I put it into 4th I went gliding by. He then kept back and wouldn't approach. Same with all the others. Before anyone replies remember that I do have a Corvette so I do know what quick/fast is.

I'm used to sports cars, and have had a few already, but didn't realise the 320D was that quick. I know that the 330i is one of the quicker BMs and I've often dreamt of having something like an M3 or 330, so respect to you for being able to keep up. Have you had race driver training, I'm going to try some before I get a car like the M3.
Have you really got a Corvette. 505bhp, wow, must be amazing. My BM is quick, but not that quick. It doesn't have the image or status of a BM, so probably not my sort of car. I bet you get more admiring looks in the BM than in that American thing.

This is absolutely tragic.
PH needs to sort its banter out. I propose an entrance test, of sorts.
I thought he passed - only ever seen one better first post on PHPH needs to sort its banter out. I propose an entrance test, of sorts.
How to hit the ground running on PH - clicky
