Morning all,

A teenager decided to try and kill my GT-R this morning, admitted liability, sadly my insurers want to give me a Mondeo-esq equivalent.

Does anyone know, work for or own a claims management company that will put me in a like-for-like car whilst they sort it out?

Thanks in advance,
Donny

Really really need a like for like? Or would a Mondeo do? The thing is, if you can show you mitigate your losses, you'll have the hire car claim go through unnoticed.

If you demand another GTR because you're important, and only a GTR will do, then the hire charges will probably go through the roof and you'll have questions asked as to why, for a short period of time, you absolutely must have the same or equivalent

It's not nice, but sometimes st happens and you just live with it

Just asking for more hassle I reckon.

Take the cheapest thing you can get away with/live with and just be glad when it all goes through smoothly and you get your car back.

Does the Mondeo have insufficient space for your needs? A Mondeo sounds (power notwithstanding) like a pretty good proxy for the GT-R.

Appreciate it's not your fault, but is it going to kill you to drive around in a Mondeo for a relatively short amount of time?

I called BMW to carry out my repair (the second time I was crashed into) and they instructed their AMC to call me. Great quality repair and an identical car was provided. All done in a timely manner without taking the piss.

Could be worth a call to Nissan? Although I doubt they have GTRs laying around :/

The first time my car was crashed into they gave me an Astra 1.6, hateful car. I presume anybody who buys one hasn't actually experienced a decent car and so doesn't know better hehe

Saying that, Mondeo's are supposed to be pretty decent so if they give you a diesel it could be nice and cheap to waft around in for a few days

Thank you for contributing to raised premiums for all.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly from one of many of the accident management/taxi/ kebab/ visa agent / letting agencies to fleece us all with your like for like innit hire car.

'Like for like' with courtesy cars is to stop people being fobbed off with a up!/ ka/ adam/107 to 'replace' their towbar equipped large estate car, not so people can have extended test drives of premium cars.

During a minor prang a few years back I was in a similar situation. Rocked up to collect my like-for-like courtesy car for my 159 and was presented with a 3 door 1.3 Corsa. As a family man with a long daily commute this was clearly unacceptable.

I had to push hard as they "had nothing else available", eventually they gave me a brand new CLS 350! Good times.

Yes, they should honour it, to the best of their ability but really, if the Mondeo will do, live with it for the short time needed to fix up your Nissan.

I've seen replies from you before MPH, your reputation remains intact.

I'll be sure to let the teenager know that I've been responsible for increasing everyone's premiums, after they've removed her car from the head on collision she caused when she overtook a car straight into me.

Thanks again.

I'd be happy to help.

Just how like for like are you after?

Same model?

Same colour?

Same interior?

Same options?

Same mileage?

Same number plate?

Whilst the accident wasn't your fault, was it a deliberate attempt to deprive you from your car? If not, accept it was an accident, st happens, and a Mondeo really won't effect your life enough to claim compensation for the distress. Chasing the right to a GTR or similar whilst you're getting yours sorted is effectively saying that the distress is worth a few thousand in additional costs...

Think a Mondeo is fine to be honest, they are good enough to drive and do what you need.

When someone smashed my Evo they gave me the most hateful pile of st thing, don't mind the name but it was a Chevrolet, little thing. It didn't have enough power to ferry four people and anything else at motorway speeds even if they could fit, and I swear there were monkeys under the bonnet moving the wheels rather than it being directly attached to the steering... was a scary journey home for me. Nothing would have been further removed from my own car.

In the end I called up and told them it wasn't acceptable, all I wanted was something capable of safely ferrying folk about and got a new Alfa 159, which I loved driving. Good job as I had it for months. Had I been given a Mondeo or something similar, I wouldn't have made a fuss about it.

This is going well hehe

FWIW I despise this like for like malarkey when it comes to very high value cars, as the inevitable hire charges are even more inflated than they would usually be. The only people who pay are us all through increased premiums.

Don't see anything wrong with smoking round in a Mondeo/3 series/C class for a few weeks. As mentioned above, it should only be in place so they don't give family car owners an Aygo.

NISMO Juke being offered, sounds like more fun than an oil burner.

You should be thankful for not getting a Vauxhall Corsa type loan car.

A Mondeo is perfectly good as a stopgap.

As you say, sounds like a bit of fun. Why not?

I'm with the OP on this.

He's paid his premiums, more than likely inflated due to it being a GTR. Why the hell should he be expected to drive around in a Mondeo as a like for like replacement, regardless who's at fault? In no world is a Mondeo an equivalent of a GTR.

Now you'll actually be able to answer the question - 'what's quicker, a GTR or a 1.6 hire car?'!

My money is on the Juke...

Exactly, like our alfa driving friend in a previous reply - a 3 door corsa wouldn't do ( although many people with kids do cope somehow). In that case if the original courtesy car delivered had been a mondeo/insignia/407/freelander etc the issue simply wouldn't have arisen.

The standalone credit hire companies started from minicabbing- as you need a locally 'badged' vehicle to work if your car is off the road, their growrh from there represents shrewd but dubiously ethical business sense.

When the other half's Fabia got hit, we were given a Hyundai i40 - because 'it's the only car with a similar engine siza' (Skoda 1.9TD). The Hynudai was simply too big for the other half to park near work, no amount of requests could get us a Fiesta/Polo size car - this wasn't credit hire, just what Enterprise were instructed to do.

1st world problems and all that but reading the OPs post did make me laugh.

Very like for like!!
