Think a Mondeo is fine to be honest, they are good enough to drive and do what you need.

When someone smashed my Evo they gave me the most hateful pile of st thing, don't mind the name but it was a Chevrolet, little thing. It didn't have enough power to ferry four people and anything else at motorway speeds even if they could fit, and I swear there were monkeys under the bonnet moving the wheels rather than it being directly attached to the steering... was a scary journey home for me. Nothing would have been further removed from my own car.

In the end I called up and told them it wasn't acceptable, all I wanted was something capable of safely ferrying folk about and got a new Alfa 159, which I loved driving. Good job as I had it for months. Had I been given a Mondeo or something similar, I wouldn't have made a fuss about it.
Exactly, like our alfa driving friend in a previous reply - a 3 door corsa wouldn't do ( although many people with kids do cope somehow). In that case if the original courtesy car delivered had been a mondeo/insignia/407/freelander etc the issue simply wouldn't have arisen.

The standalone credit hire companies started from minicabbing- as you need a locally 'badged' vehicle to work if your car is off the road, their growrh from there represents shrewd but dubiously ethical business sense.

I'm with the OP on this.

He's paid his premiums, more than likely inflated due to it being a GTR. Why the hell should he be expected to drive around in a Mondeo as a like for like replacement, regardless who's at fault? In no world is a Mondeo an equivalent of a GTR.
I can see the Op's reasoning. How long will the OP be without the GTR? Are parts readily available?

According to some on here he should be grateful for a KA of Fiat 500 just to mitigate everyone else's premiums. There was a thread on here about a poster's supercar that got pranged and had a super-duper policy that gave him like for like cover and the flak he received was unbelieveable!

It's not the OP's stance who is increasing everyones premium, it's the fkwit and his kind who crashed into him!

Mondeo is acceptable but I would have perhaps expected something a little further up the food chain, perhaps a Merc E Class or something, you will never get like for like with a car like the GTR but could reasonably something seen on rental fleets that is a few rungs up.

However, would just take the Mondeo and put it down to experience, the lads at the garage will be enjoying your GTR though biggrin

I got a 1.0 automatic Corsa when I wrote off my cooper s, it was a small 3 door to be fair but God it was terrible. All the kick down did was make more noise

That made me laugh J4cko; they won't be enjoying it for a while as it's currently a three wheeler.

Anyhow, here's an update for everyone - on confirming a few more details my insurer apologised for the third party trying to downgrade me as I've paid an additional premium for a like-for-like replacement and so I'll be getting a BMW650 or Audi S8 Quattro tomorrow.

That's more like it - the Atom would have been freezing at this time of year hehe

OP, your clients will perceive that you are not successful and therefore this may damage your business. You need a prestige car, not a Mondeo snotter.

My previous boss was given a tiny korean heap when his 5 series was damaged. Not a very good car to turn up in when you are an MD.

One other point to consider. Even though we are discussing a non-fault claim, the OP will still have to declare this Accident when renewing insurance. Most insurers will want to know what the total costs are. A like for like performance car provided through an Accident management hire company could put the cost of the total claim up by 10's of thousands. Some insurers may view the OP as a higher risk due to the total claim and apply an inflated premium or decline to quote.

Even if it's a "non fault" accident, you still have to declare it when it comes to insurance renewel, and they will ask the value of the claim. I suspect the total value of the claim will rise dramatically if you get a GTR over a mondeo, and this will increase your next premium even more.

It also suits you to keeps costs down from this point of view.

Do you get to choose which?

It's funny but when anyone comes to see me at work I can't see what they turn up in nor am I interested .

Sadly no, they're the two cars in the SV10 bracket the GT-R is in that they have in stock, I'd quite like to drive either.

I nearly bought a M6 a few years back but went for a Maserati GranSport instead (for sale if any of you are interested) so pootling about in a 650 will give me a fairly good idea on whether I made the right decision.

I've not had a quick Audi since my late teens and an A4 1.8t, so that'd be nice too.

Seems it all turned out okay.

Fair enough, its probably true in most cases. But its an argument the OP can put forward to justify getting the car he wants.

The attitude of some on here is out of risible. How about someone comes and takes away your pride and joy for weeks on end, which you have paid for and replaces it with a Mondeo? How pleased would you be with that?

Not having the use of your car is a loss, which you should be compensated for. Whatever next, being greatful that they only put primer on your repair?

Must have cost him millions. Not always easy to see when people are being serious here.

I thought he was joking too. Sounds a bit whiney, "don't you know how important I am?" hehe

Hmmm, so much for mitigating your loss.

Nice one.

There is a definite "race to the bottom" mentality on here that makes it generally ste.

I think it's just a difference in peoples expectations.

I've had a prang and been lent a pretty dull car in the past, but it never occured to me to ask for a better one.
