Have to say I'm with the OP, perhaps in the minority.

You've bought and paid north of £50k for a GTR, why should you drive a Mondeo instead because some idiot drove into you?

If it was for a day or two, fair enough, but the OP's car sounds pretty wrecked to me.

Don't fanny around because they give you a BMW and you want a Merc, but I'd be wanting something a little more premium than a Mondeo (not that there's anything in the least wrong with them)

In my opinion its a valid argument...

The nonsense arguments that this type of claim is driving up insurance costs.. The driver has like-for-like on the policy, which has been paid for.

Insurance companies have their risk models, and offer these options in order to win the business.

Hmmm, so much for mitigating your loss.
There's a difference between mitigating your loss and not being compensated for your loss!

I wonder if it is economical to repair it. Especially if the bill for the whizzy hire cars mounts up while the bodyshop waits for repair components to make their way to the UK on a boat.

Hi Toxic, you may not have read the whole thread. I've paid the additional premium for like-for-like it's not a case of me being uppity about a certain car brand etc.

I'm too bald to be petulant hehe

Really really need a like for like? Or would a Mondeo do? The thing is, if you can show you mitigate your losses, you'll have the hire car claim go through unnoticed.

If you demand another GTR because you're important, and only a GTR will do, then the hire charges will probably go through the roof and you'll have questions asked as to why, for a short period of time, you absolutely must have the same or equivalent

It's not nice, but sometimes st happens and you just live with it
Why should he be stuck in a low class wagon whilst his car is repaired because of someone else?

Repairs can take weeks, I wouldn't want to be stuck in a Mondeo for that long.

Demand like for like, nothing else!

That's fine, as long as you understand that your next premium will increase even more as the value of the claim goes up.

Yeah somehow I think some few hundred quid is going to make a difference in the running cost of that car. It's like 3 tanks..

So we're still not gonna have a clue about which is faster - GTR or 1.6 Juke hire car.

For some reason Top Gear wasn't interested in my twin test idea...

Sway, I apologise for my resistance to your planned group test.

(I was actually looking forward to a NISMO Juke)

Wow there really are some major Jerks on Pistonheads. The OP asks for some advice and the baying mob of jealous and thoughtless twits come out in droves. I think it is totally reasonable to expect a similar car to drive when through no fault of your own your own car is put off the road. What is wrong with some people on here?

I'm with the OP on this - you should be provided with a car that is equivalent to your car. Maybe not an exact match, however similar - same insurance group maybe?

When my 3-Series Coupe was repaired, I got a new Mini Countryman Cooper D ALL4 which seemed fair.

I wonder how much extra we will all pay for the OP getting a like for like replacement( that he has paid an extra premium to get) by comparison to the amount we pay extra to cover the to**ers who don't bother with insurance at all along with the fraudulent whip lash/injury claims.

Both worth about the same.
Both 2 litre diesel engines.
Both automatic.
Both from BMW Group.

Same as the OP i.e. S8 and GT-R - not the same by any means however similar in terms of prestige etc.

I turned down the hire car when my Fiesta was hit in the street on 2nd of this month.

I used my Fiat full time for the few days until the Ford came back with a new bumper and rear end

un mangled.

I might make a claim for the extra £3.95 of fuel I used.

OP whether you will care or not I don't know, but I would double check it's a courtesy car as you've now been told rather than a credit hire.

The attitude of some on here is out of risible. How about someone comes and takes away your pride and joy for weeks on end, which you have paid for and replaces it with a Mondeo? How pleased would you be with that?
I'd be quite pleased I didn't have to walk, if that counts? In fact, I was quite pleased when my 340R was being repaired and I got given a Ka to use.

He's being asked to drive a Mondeo for a short amount of time. He's not being asked to bounce up and down in a big armchair full of AIDS-infected needles.

So by that logic if my car was damaged I should ask for an 806 as a replacement?

IMO, 'like for like' only really goes as far as size / shape - not value / badge / performance.

As most others have said, I'd be happy with the Mondeo, they're not bad cars and surely in 'normal' daily situations will do everything your GTR can do, for the relatively short time you'll have it.
