How Can I Make Insurance Cheaper?
Discussion
Guys, my insurance is due next month and looking through this thread I decided to try a few things out to see how much my premium changed.
I've changed mine and the two named drivers job titles to chartered accountants, increased the vehicle value from 6500 to 20000 and voluntary excess from 250 to 500. My quote has gone from £1,548 to £1,132.
My question is, could there be any complications by going ahead with these 'amendments'?

Maybe it's expensive because Mk4 Golfs handle so badly that you're likely to stack it?
And they're about as far from a GTI as it's possible to get - both in 2.0, 1.8 and 1.8T form.
Absolutely awful cars.
I had a 1.8T GTI about 11 yrs ago and it's the only car i've come close to having a big accident in all by myself. The engine has the characteristics of a diesel with the fuel economy of a V6.
Save your money!!!!
it's expensive because statistically 19 yo men are the worse drivers on the planet and the chances of a claim are very high. What the insurance company is saying is, we do not want to take on the risk. The only way to manage the premiums is to buy a small engined slow car and build up for NCD over the next 5+ years. It sucks but nothing you can do about itAnd they're about as far from a GTI as it's possible to get - both in 2.0, 1.8 and 1.8T form.

Well your insuracne would be invalid as a result of fraud for starters....I've changed mine and the two named drivers job titles to chartered accountants, increased the vehicle value from 6500 to 20000 and voluntary excess from 250 to 500. My quote has gone from £1,548 to £1,132.

Plus it's fairly quick with a lot of tuning/modification potential. Remaps completely change the car.
This...If you can't afford the insureance then you can afford to the modify and then declare the modifications. The fact it can be made much faster for relatively little outlay and the insurer would struggle to identify this if not declared will push premiums up.VW parts cost for than VX Parts.
The car is physically bigger and heavier so will likely cause more damage if there is an accident.

Yes don't do it, your insurance will be invalid. I would think alarm bells would ring at the insurance company as your car is obviously not a £20k car.I've changed mine and the two named drivers job titles to chartered accountants, increased the vehicle value from 6500 to 20000 and voluntary excess from 250 to 500. Now put everything back to how it should be but keep the excess at £500 I bet that saves you most of that money.

Providing your job title is or is very similar to being a chartered accountant then its fine. If its an out and out lie then its fraud.
No it's not, think I'll give that a miss. May keep my additional drivers job titles as accountants though as surely they wouldn't question that during a claim as the additional drivers never have or will drive the car?HJMS123 said:

For what will probably be pennies, why risk it? seriously its the same with anything limiting the miles to 4999 no matter how many you do and all that bks why bother because if you need to make a claim there is a good chance they will be looking for a way to stick you for it. ali_kat said:
May I STRONGLY suggest you do NOT buy a faster car!
The fact that you went back through another thread, quoted me, copied it, then tried to find this thread to post it is hilariously sad. Once again I forgot this is PH where nobody breaks any laws etc etc.Elsewhere today Petrolhead95 said:
Just been pulled over for doing 90 MPH in a 40 MPH. Luckily he didn't clock me, but knew I was doing silly speeds. My arse has completely fallen out. So, so, so lucky not to lose my licence.
*awaits you to find the other thread where I asked help when I was flashed for doing 70 in a 50 on the M25*

Either way, its a pretty cockend thing to be doing over double the speed limit on a 40mph road.
Indeed, I'd say his premiums are pretty accurate based on that behaviour.Petrolhead95 said:

I admit that I sometimes do break a speed limit, but 90 in a 40 is a hell of a difference!
