How Can I Make Insurance Cheaper?
Discussion
OP I've been there, I got a Golf MK4 1.6 and have had a blackbox fitted for 3 years, now when this years insurance is due, it shall only be around the £450 mark without a box, this is due to me building up my no claims.
However, when you're doing 90 in a 40, there's not much point in you getting a blackbox.

I am in awe of both of you. The OP couldn't possibly hope to be as awesome as you two.My insurance was £9,000,000,000 a month.
I am not worthy! I only ever managed a paltry 30mph on my old push iron

Not read the whole thread so apologies if this has already been said but:
1. Don't buy a car of a make/model/spec that's frequently been driven and often crashed by young people. A Mk!V GTI is probably a good example of a car to avoid!
2. Add named drivers onto your policy, rather than insuring the car in a relatives name and being listed as a main driver. (For a start, insuring your car in a relatives name if you're the main driver is illegal, and the popularity of fronting in this way for cheaper premiums is partly why there's little financial benefit to doing so.) I added my grandmother and girlfriend as named drivers on my first car, my grandmother was unlikely to ever drive it (as it happened she didn't ever drive it) but it was useful if she needed to. Doing it this way is less legally dubious and also has the added benefit of building NCD earlier.
I'd honestly consider either buying something crap instead to get a couple of years claim-free under your belt, or buying something unusual and interesting that you're (in the eyes of the Insurance Co, at least) statistically less likely to put into a tree within the first few months of ownership. It is possible to insure some interesting, fast-ish (faster than a Golf, anyway) metal for reasonable money with a bit of thought.

It's amusing how angry people can get over something on the internet. I was pulled for speeding, but no where near 90 - I doubt my car could even reach 75 on that road, let alone 90.
You really think I would be allowed to just drive away if I was doing more than twice the limit past a police car?

I'm an angry dog, it's in my nature. You really think I would be allowed to just drive away if I was doing more than twice the limit past a police car?
You're a little immature, aren't you.

Young man I think you've been here long enough to realise that it's not wise to post up silliness and not expect a roasting for it.You really think I would be allowed to just drive away if I was doing more than twice the limit past a police car?

So you posted a lie to see what sort of response you'd get from others then - is that it? Odd.You really think I would be allowed to just drive away if I was doing more than twice the limit past a police car?

Then why would you claim that? It's not big and it's not clever. Grow up.You really think I would be allowed to just drive away if I was doing more than twice the limit past a police car?

Whichever story is true, you've outed yourself as having a consistent disregard for the law AND a liarYou really think I would be allowed to just drive away if I was doing more than twice the limit past a police car?
Time to grow up, not get a faster car.
How is it that something not really linked to your driving profile such as your postcode have such a dramatic effect on your insurance price?
23, 4 years ncb, no accidents, low annual mileage, etc. With one postcode everything and I mean everything remotely tasty/has an engine much bigger than 1600cc defaulted to stupid 4k+. Move to another postcode 5 miles away? I can insure a e55k amg for under a grand.
Both postcodes are about the same when it comes to crime too!
Its making looking for a flat awkward.

Well there are two possibilities.23, 4 years ncb, no accidents, low annual mileage, etc. With one postcode everything and I mean everything remotely tasty/has an engine much bigger than 1600cc defaulted to stupid 4k+. Move to another postcode 5 miles away? I can insure a e55k amg for under a grand.

A) Spite. Insurers have a meeting once a month and pick random postcodes to persecute, just for a laugh.
B) The 2 postcodes are not the same, and their stats shows that people living in one postcode cost them far more in claims than people living in the other.
I'm no expert, but I'm going for option B.

We had this..moved to a better area, premium went up, when asked why i was told the average value of a car in your are has increased making any collision likely to cost more!A) Spite. Insurers have a meeting once a month and pick random postcodes to persecute, just for a laugh.

Quoted 1400 quid on a mk4 golf gti turbo, 20 with 2 years no claims and 6 points.
My friend came to see me yesterday, he was paying £3600@21 with 0ncb on a Golf GTI mk5. He was on his 14th day of insurance so I got him to call up and cancel for a refund-admin fees.I then set him a quote up and he's paid £1161.
It still amuses me how people don't know how to find cheap insurance quotes
