Sympathies to family and friends, obviously.

All 5 in one vehicle hit a vehicle travelling in opposite direction. Driver of 3rd vehicle believed to be travelling with the teenager's vehicle arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous.

BBC just trotted out the promising footballer for one and promising boxer for another. Distinctly neddish in appearance which is probably just prejudice on my part.

When it happened at my school it was a metro 5 up, trying to overtake a truck, and having a head on with a truck coming the other way. The owner of the car (not in it) got in some trouble I recall because it was in really poor condition.

It'll happen again as well.

All you can do is train your children well in how to drive responsibly and take proper care on the road with the right attitude and right skills to stay safe themselves and avoid other people. Then you also need to teach them to look after their cars property and to be careful who they get into cars with and who they drive in convoy with. It says in another article the teenagers killed met the guy who was arrested at a McDonald's and they seemed to be following him in foggy conditions when the collision happened.

Next time someone moans about insurance for young drivers being ridiculous, perhaps this thread can be referenced. It's happended many times before and will happen many times in the future. Just tragic.

Couldn't put it better myself.

One of my sons mates was killed (by drowning) at Malvern last year, the shock of sudden death is just awful, and five families have lost their teenage darlings today.

If the fog in South Yorkshire was anything like it was in West Yorkshire yesterday then visibility was almost nonexistent. I went out for a run at around 3.30pm, so relative daylight, and I couldn't see more than 20 - 30 metres at best. I can only imagine it was far worse at 9.30pm.

Having just watched "24 Hours in A&E" where a young lad crashed his motorbike and is now in a wheelchair for the rest of his life and having read the above story, I dread the day my 7 year old wants to learn to drive / ride. Very sad.

They look pretty normal to me.

Here's two of the deceased in the news a couple of months ago.

Tell me about it. I've a 2 and 5 year old and a lot of the time I think I've signed myself up to a life of constant worry.

We lost my brother in a car accident 10 years ago last week. I've seen what that kind of loss does to a parent and it isn't pretty and it doesn't go away.

Lad i work with is in intensive care due to a SMIDSY in a Jag. The hospital is still digging bits of helmet out of his face.

Just feel for those kids. Not being morbid but why was the other guy arrested?

The fu@kwits defending the Golf driver on another thread should take a look at this. They might change their opinion.

if you do anything wrong in the vicinity of a fatal crash then you also get arrested for causing death by dangerous driving.

I dont know the details of this crash but a typical scenario would be somebody 'pressing on' and the car with the 5 teenagers bins it trying to keep up.

The news report said that they were on the wrong side of the road, implying either racing or stupid overtaking behaviour. Unfortunate that the inexperience or stupidity of the driver has killed 4 others.
