Two cars I often consider as cheap potentially fun warm hatches are the Suzuki Ignis Sport, and the Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart. Couldn't tell you the last time I saw either of them on the road as well.
One of the guys I work with has a Colt Ralliart, they look pretty good, and go quite well too!Smart had the same engine in the Brabus four as mentioned earlier with 175bhp and hit 60 in the high 6's. Not a looker mind.

Heres one I bought a Datsun Europa GTI as a young lad at the 1983 earls court motor show I hadnt heard of it when I bought it and I havent heard of it since wriggling out of the sale an hour later lol.Infact I cant find any images or info on google even.
After I bought it went to the top floor and couldnt believe what I was looking at a whole row of Escort Xr3is and 1600is ,from a finance repo company all nearly new,
I was looking at my dream car ever since a 10 year old wanting a Ford Escort Mexico.
Young and naive didnt know if I had cancellation rights and plotted an escape.Bought a car magazine that showed the 0-60 was slower than the salesman told me on the desk so went back gave him the news then went upstairs to get my dream car and it was truly my favourite car then and now.
Actually I think this is it,,,,,,,,http://www.datsun-france.com/Ratdat/ratdatblog/?cat=241 Got some Alfa Romeo DNA in it!!After I bought it went to the top floor and couldnt believe what I was looking at a whole row of Escort Xr3is and 1600is ,from a finance repo company all nearly new,

I think the Volvo 480 should get a mention.
Weird wedge looks. First FWD Volvo. Pop-up headlights. Only 4 seats (due to a rear centre console). Futuristic "computer" (that barely worked, meaning you never knew how much petrol you had left). Turbo option available. Lotus designed suspension.
I had an ES and it was awesome. Loads of character and it handled very well. Turned in beautifully. Unfortunately I got a bit carried away one day and put it through three concrete posts at 60mph. Turns out it's also incredibly safe.
The 1.7 turbo Renault engine didn't really have much go in it though. Weird wedge looks. First FWD Volvo. Pop-up headlights. Only 4 seats (due to a rear centre console). a couple more odd ones....
Alfa 33 Cloverleaf instead of a 205 1.6 Gti, had 2 Alfa 33's both fell apart but great engine.
At work we had a Fiat Punto HGT as a run around(Nappy yellow with a blue interior) with the 1.8 Turbo in it and Satnav!!! drove very oddly for a turbo you'd just get the engine going and you'd hit a limiter

Phase 1 Pug 106 XSi the precat 1.4 (not the cat'd 1.4 or the 1.6) they were always outshone by the Rallye counterpart but having owned both the 1.4 was the better car day to day! Can't even find an XSi for sale anymore, personally I blame the scrapage scheme

0-60 under 9 seconds ,pretty good for 40 years ago I reckon.

I had a brand new brm200, I only paid 12k and it was in the showroom for 17k, 20,000 miles later the same dealer got me £12k for it to someone looking for one! A Ferrari 348 driver got a bit narky at Castle Combe when I over took him with it.
It had Passive rear steering I think.
I have got 2 205's now but I did always like the 309s as the less good looking big brother / sister but they had such an ugly dash and a really inferior image (that was important at 18). I think they were cheaper to insure though when the insurance prices went mad. They are diet cheap compared to 205's. Many of the track day 205 drivers swap to the 309 rear beam and front arms for a wider track and a little more neg camber on the front as they are supposed to handle better.

Am I going too far back in time to mention the Fiat Strada Abarth?!
Certainly not, cracking cars and I still get sorely tempted by the odd one that comes up for sale.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
