Had loads of different cars growing up and various track bits.

A set with a Mondeo BTCC and a Team Dynamics 318
Senna's FW16
Senna's JPS Lotus and the Camel Lotus straight after it too
Couple of different GT cars as well.

Used to love Scalextric so much.

Used to go to Scalextrics clubs back in the 80's, some had tracks 50 feet long!!! and 8 lanes ( Thornton Heath ) My favourite cars were a yellow Lamborghine Miura, black BMW M1 and a blue Datsun 240z. Set my first eyes on "Spanish" cars, RS200 and Ferrari 288 GTO were popular, fitted with cobalt magnet motors ( stupid fast ). Had a play with a customer recently on a modern track, WAY too fast with magnets for cornering, seriously lost the plot nowdays. Scale speeds so high it is stupid.

I had the red and yellow TR7s and the very mini clubman in the video. Also had a yellow stock car that would spin 180 degrees if you floored it!

Got back into slot racing 3 years ago after getting a pair of highly detailed Gulf Aston Martins as a gift. The old track stored in the loft was gradually upgraded and now we have the layout below that gets used every winter.

IMO this is the best current incarnation of slot racing, cars take the racing line until a challenger slips one down the inside for a side by side battle.

Nice controlled slides in the corners too.

I can recall a catalogue with the BMW M1 and Audi Quattro next to it (cant fine the whole thing).

I spent a lot of time planning to buy those two...

...never did save up enough pocketmoney though frown

Always wanted this as a child:

Instead I got a secondhand Aurora set with a 917 Porsche and Datsun 240 I think. Quite small, well detailed cars with working lights.

Years later - when the interest had passed - my brother and me were giving a Mighty Metros set. We set about adding cardboard wings and aerofoils to the cars to stop them flying off the banked corners. When that got dull, we added some extra straight sections and created a drag strip down the living room.

Me and my brother had a figure of 8 F1 set in the early 90's. The hot electric smell and the sound were the most evocative things about it.

My first set

It also had a little sound box that made engine noises as well.

I had Mighty Metros, Calibra DTM and a Lotus/Tyrell set I got at a car boot sale for £1. We used to set them up in various set ups with Lego tyres as tyre walls, Britain's tractors as recovery and 'spectators' parked round the track in their Corgi cars to get it as realistic as possible, then get bored after a few races and do something else.
I think the track was thrown out when we moved house, though I've still got a 4WD Celica, one of the Escort Mexicos and the Lotus/Tyrell from the car boot set.

That is awesome. Check out the in-car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfg001GxLBA

How do they get two cars to run on the same slot, yet keep the power input to each, separate?
