Full respray for £399 - Too good to be true?

The orange peel is pretty comical up close on some examples, but then I think what exactly do you want for the money? At £399 your choices are old, battered paint, a couple of smart repairs and a session with a detailer or a full respray with a bit of orange peel up close.

What makes the most sense would depend on the car and what state the paint is in. For my Jag I'd take the detailer because the paint has been looked after and it doesn't need touching up. For my Soarer, after seeing their work I'd be seriously considering them if they weren't so far away. I need a couple of panels painting due to scrapes, and this is before we consider that the rest of the paint is in 25 years old and has lived a hard life. For £399 to get a complete blow over sounds handy.

I've re-sprayed friends cars for 500quid its my mates rates but they supply the paint be it 2pac solids or base+clear, I've being part of the crew on 4day full resprays including full-strip all bar front an rear screens removed(hardrubber trimed screens usually removed), primed+blocked, colour change, + jambs,inner doors,inner boot lid and under bonnet and as much of the bay as possible, €14-1600 would be a v. fair price with no excessive rust/damage,

5-6litres will cover most cars inside an out unless its a barge,
2pac solids standox- €290-350good quality,
or
cheep paint made with animal fats I believe €150 ok meant for tractors
or
high-end base with quality clearcoat - €480-550 add another 100 for fancy anti-chip uhs clear
when we got our own scheme to mix we saved maybe €20-30 p/l of colour

then 150-€200 for sandpaper dry+wet, 2"+1"tape, masking film, thinners, pre-clean etc.

then about 50-70 p/h the booth runs gota feed them single-phase and kerosene

any quality body-man/painter is worth €100 a day or as close as possible, it'll take 2-3 good lads 2-3days
to strip+prep for primer and the guts of a day or more to prep for paint, then another 2-3hours painting then a quick nib of any-dust 3-4hours later (gun-finish can be perfect if your good enough)and all work done to O.E. quality or better

for example
98 cl600 refinished from black to original purple metallic complete colour change and a new front bumper+some plastics invoiced €3600 and took almost 2weeks, there well built so take time to strip+rebuild

we could also freshen up a typical white van mans em van, for 600 bangers with no time spent just to keep it going for awhile glass+fill 4-5day turn-around,
or
1800-€2500 for new steps,arches and other usual crispy areas (transit for example) to be welded in and metal/flush finished with as little fillers as possible and body straightened 10-14days

4lters would be enough for a exterior blow-over in same colour with st paint on a average hatchback little as €100 depending on what paint scheme you use possibly cheaper

you pay peanuts you get monkeys - simple as
I doubt the quality of there workers if they work for peanuts,
how does the work hold up/on after a year or two,
how dose there finish act when over-coated
what are they painting the car with?
and can the colours be matched in a year or two if it needs repairs

Well im a genuine customer,

I get the car back in 4-5 days. Like ive said in previous posts, its a track car not a show car. Ill be wet sanding and machine polishing to try and get the best from it.

When i dropped off the car i had a walk around speaking to the guys and looking at the cars they had done and were prepping. the finished articles did have a bit of orange peel but easily could be sorted with wet sand. Ive seen some homers my other pals have (track cars) and they pay more for a worse job than what ive seen from these guys.


Time will tell i suppose.

have a look at there page that was posted earlier i think it will surprise alot of you negative guys

Maybe if you had come into this thread with this polite manner initially people might not have been so quick to ridicule you and ultimately the £399 job is never going to touch a proper full respray regardless of price but if it is acceptable for your needs ie track car or just freshening up an older tired car I am sure it will be adequate , possibly it would have been better for you to get the car back first then post pics if it narked you so and provide pics before you go over it and then after so people can judge for themselves not just come in telling everyone they are wrong .

I had the bottom half of my wife's BMW resprayed recently for £850. And that was a special rate because the mechanic is a long time friend of her father and likes to look after us (he fitted a clutch for me for £150 as well a few weeks ago). The job was done really well, everything blended in with the untouched paintwork, dents removed, plastics put back on properly (there were some corners that had lifted off)

for £399 you want to ask how they are going to do the job.

Recently had some paint done

£100 - front bumper brand new no repair work
£380 - rear quarter, 3 door handles boot handle bumper trim and front wings

The next lot is £380 for a bit more, front bonnet bumper, 1 x wing passenger rear door and rear bumper, 4 x door trims - getting discount due to chucking a fair chunk of work their way (full car respray coming soon)

for £399 I wouldn't expect much, looking on the facebook page the transit camper looks like it has very bad reflections.

I've painted before with OK results, generally on snotters or cars that wouldn't last long, i've had good results flat polishing but if I want something to look nice Ill pay for a decent job.

Id rather buy a car that's got a crappy original paint job - if I went to view a car with a crap respray I'd think cheap paint cheap maintenance!

I don't know really.

I'd rather have battered paint than a £400 respray that annoys me whenever I look at it. I think it'd just irate me. £399 is a bargain but just bleh.

The rear quarter view of the Impreza looks a bit orange peely too. But I'm thinking this would be great for a track/race car where ultimate quality isn't an issue.
