To be frank, and I hate myself for saying this BUT spend the money on a holiday or three, doing things like going Whale Watching in Norway (and the Northern Lights), go scuba diving in the Maldives with a Whale Shark....

Do a few track days/experience days/rally days for the petrol head moments. Perhaps even go to an F1 race (I wonder if you contacted McLaren they would allow you to get into the garage in Silverstone next year?)

Sorry to hear of your news! I thought this might be good fun: http://www.bespokes.co.uk/activity-day-supercar-da...
If you go onto youtube and type in "Bespokes Supercar Day - Driving 8 Cars in One Day" - there is a guy that has done a review on it.

or get yourself on a tour with these guys: http://www.petrolheadnirvana.com/

Best wishes mate.

I was in similar situation with my wife (albeit with no timescale) and the memories I treasure most are a trip to Rio and one to Wales.

There is no way you'll get travel insurance so if you get ill while on the cruise you are looking at footing the cost of a private charter to get home.

Firstly I'm really sorry to hear about your news.

In your position (I can't imagine) I would be looking at F1 drives in Spain or South Africa. Following this hire anything that you fancy. More importantly I would probably head to safari, hire a balloon and watch the sunrise with my family...

Enjoy every moment. My heart goes out to you mate.

Obviously, do what you like, but I'd say you'll want to include as much of your family into the experiences, purely because they'll want some memories with you.

But hey, you're dying, I'm not going to tell you what you should do for the rest of your life! laugh

I couldn't agree more.

Sorry to hear your news OP, but go live life and enjoy.

Not meaning to pry, but will your condition affect your ability to drive or get insurance?

I'd go for a Ferrari 360, or a mad Cobra replica, or a GTR.
I don't think so, I have mesothelioma??
I'm so sorry to hear that. It looks like only brain metastasis would result in an automatic suspension of your license.

Anyway, I agree with some of the other comments - do an F1 drive, a rally course, Palmersport day etc. where you get pictures and a movie to take away. I'd probably do a Spitfire flight and go on a taxi run in the Lancaster in Lincolnshire, but I love old aircraft so maybe that's just me. That way you get to have some real fun, and leave memories of a happy you for your family. Then do the cruise/holiday thing.

A guy I used to work with found he had terminal cancer in his mid-30s, so he sold his classic Elan and went on a round the world holiday with his girlfriend, all business class. Sadly he died on one of the flights, but she always said how she remembered how happy he was.

This is easy to type, but I really mean it - best of luck to you and your family.

Really sorry to hear of your news.

Deep down there may well be one car or one drive or one place that you've always wanted to experience. Well now's the time. Do whatever's most important to you and ignore the advice of me and everyone else.

I hope your diagnosis is not as bad as bad as it seems and I wish you and all your friends & family my best wishes.

I am very grateful for all the advice and kind thoughts, it is really appreciated, my situation is wierd for the want of a better word,to be told I may only have 6 months left but at the moment I have no symptoms and can operate as normal, it is just that I am not able to plan anything long term and have had to sell my beloved boat that I have kept and used in France for the last 5 years as this could have been a real headache for my wife to sort out.

No leasing company will hit the next of kin for early termination charges on a personal lease in the case of.....well.... early termination of the person leasing, if you'll excuse my choice of words.

That said, I'm with the "sod the car and do more meaningful stuff with you loved ones" brigade.

Hi OP, sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

I can't really help with your car query but I'm an Industrial Disease solicitor (albeit a Scottish one) and I act for a lot of clients in similar situations.

If you need any advice/details about support groups, DWP stuff or English sols, please drop me a PM.

Go get yourself a GT3 at a Porsche dealership. Something with a small deposit, big ballon payment. Enjoy it.

When you pass away, they can repossess it. Don't worry about your future credit rating.

Buy something really unusual such as a an Aston Martin Estate or a Lynx, big demand when it is no longer required, and adding a bit of lightness it could reduce the cost of hiring a big black slow moving estate like vehicle, at a later date.
All the best.
