I have recently been diagnosed as terminally ill, prognos is 6/18 months, at this time I am still reasonably fit and well.
I currently own a 2013 520d luxury touring,I would like to sell this and get something a bit more exotic, not outrageous, without owning it, I can easily pay 650pm but remember the term could be very short, is there a scheme that would be suitable for my situation, preferably without a ruinous financial penalty when I inevitably expire before the end of the "term"?
All suggestions welcome.

Sorry to hear of your news.

May I suggest doing something different.

1/ Spend a grand doing this. http://www.palmersport.com/full-day-programme.aspx It is a most outstanding day out.
2/ Spend a few hundred quid doing this ( use their carterham) - and get some cheap tuition on the day http://www.bookatrack.com/event-calendar
3/ Hire a proper supercar for a weekend.
4/ Spend your weekends getitng some test drives of interesting cars. (Free)
5/ Hire something like these... http://www.greatescapecars.co.uk/pricesbooking.asp £350 for an E Type for a weekend. Not too shabby.

I wouldn't be putting money into a daily drive.

Good luck fella.

All sounds like a good way to spend one's last few months.

But.... Point 4, really! I sell cars for a living and there's nothing more frustrating than people just timewasting with no intention of buying. We earn our money by selling cars, if we're wasting our time with the likes of you we'd sell a lot less cars.

For the OP, the best places to look might be online, or maybe go into your local Enterprise, Hertz etc and have a chat with the Branch Manager and see if a deal is to be struck borrowing something interesting for 6 months. A lot of them now have supercars and the like for hire.

Join a supercar club and take something interesting each visit. Also, as far as events go, try this:

It's very unlikely that you're going to get finance, given your life expectancy. Your best bet is to buy something that your executors can easily re-sell. It'll probably cost less overall, too.

Flogging the 5 should release a decent sum.

How are you planning on paying the £650pcm? I'm guessing you won't be working until your final breath...?

Money is not really a problem but I was trying to avoid paying out a large sum to buy, them leaving my wife at the mercy of bandits when selling!!!!,I know that is rather a contradiction when I say money is not really a problem, but old habits die hard.

Find a decent indy dealer, tell them your predicament and ask for them to give you a buy back price, they will agree.

Buy from a reputable specialist, and arrange a buy-back in advance with them...?

Given what's happened and the diagnosis, I admire your spirit and the desire to own some interesting metal before the time comes.

To give maximum security to your family, why not got a reliable but boring daily, 4 or 5k on something jap. Easy to shift on for te wife.

Then, go mental on hire, tuition, track days etc. quality driving experiences with loads of photos and videos of you enjoying what you have left. That will leave great memories behind.

If I were in your predicament, the first thing I would do is order the kit car ive been promising myself I will build. Then I will buy a mental off road ready truck to tow it with. At the same time I can get back into off roading, which I miss greatly.

Something like a Ferrari 360 for £40k will be worth the same... then buy a cheap 911 as well... maybe an 80s hot hatch, these are going up in value.

Very sad to her but make the most, what you are asking is not uncommon, sold cars to people in similar situations with much shorter pockets.

Sorry to hear your news OP.

My suggestion would be similar to Jet's... If I was in your position I'd buy a Bentley Continental for £25k and visit anywhere and everywhere in Europe I wanted to. Realistically the Conti isn't going to depreciate much more and I can't think of a better way to do some serious European miles. Plus, you'll have had experienced the mighty W12!

Or... Stretch the budget a bit further and grab a Maserati Gransport.

Tvr tuscan, as much fun as you can have on wheels, feels like it wants to kill you but rewarding when you get it right.
As others said, negotiate a buy back at 3 different time intervals, then go hard until you fall.

I admire your attitude and hope you enjoy your time.

My father is a classic car dealer and he has agreed many times over the years to sell someone car and buy it back when they expire - yours is unfortunately a common occurrence.

I'm sure other dealers must do similar - I'd expect to lose circa £2k on a £15k car over 6 months - probably less on an older car and more on a later one.

Not meaning to pry, but will your condition affect your ability to drive or get insurance?

I'd go for a Ferrari 360, or a mad Cobra replica, or a GTR.
