Wow!

Wonder if it was a cut and shut originally?

That used to be such a common occurrence.

I remember a Jag XJ6 on the Bristol Road (A38) near Brum city center when I was a lad, as a passenger in my dads car, about three behind the one that split.

The occupants were killed sadly (no need to wear seatbelts in those days, they were all flung from the stricken vehicle).

That was a "cut and shut" I seem to remember.

What's the car? Looks a bit like a 1st gen Impreza.

That's was my initial first thought. Just seems to have split quite nicely at the bulkhead.

Thought the same; the colour looks like Subaru's Arcadia Green Metallic. They're definitely very lucky to have survived regardless of what car they were travelling in.

Pretty sure it's a MK- 1 Impreza. Almost certainly had a replacement front end welded on.

Is that theoretically possible?

Must have been going @ a lick to loose it on the A45, it's wide dual carrigeway and pretty much straight.

Got a mate in a Subaru club here in Coventry, and that bit of road is just round the corner from me - asked him to see if he knows the guy!

That split is very neat and in the area that you might well fuse two cars.. Surely it must be a cut and shut!

I was wondering the same.

I don't think I've ever seen such a clean break. There is almost no damage to the rest of the car, just a clean chop off.

Maybe a trick of the light, but those doors look a different colour as well.

Actually I realised after I posted previously, I think there might have been some diesel down on the A45 on Saturday. About an hour prior to this accident and about a mile down the road from where this crash was, I saw a Porsche Boxster beached at the side of the road with a lot of the front suspension ripped off, a young guy stood next to it on his mobile phone and a police car in attendance. I remember seeing diesel spills on the road at some point on my drive, but can't remember it was up the A45 or not.

I'm fairly sure it's due to the door being open, the light reflected from the front and rear door windows is different.

It's definitely an Impreza - if you look at the photo the subframe bit that's been ripped out of the car has a longitudinally mounted gearbox and it's possible to see the end of the transfer case. Additionally the exhaust system is clearly modified in Japanese style. Couple that to the fact the car looks like an Impreza and I guess it is a foregone conclusion. I wonder why it happened? Probably nothing dodgy - given the right circumstances any car can break apart in truly odd ways.

Interestingly there's a thread also on here where someone is asking for buying advice on a 1st gen Impreza.

Rust seems to be an issue particularly on the A-pillar and rear wheel arches with the arches being a case of rusting from behind 'if you can see it, it's too late'.

Just wondering if the a-pillar rust is in fact the signs of worse rot where you can't see it and could be part of the reason this car came apart as such.
