Horrific MLM'ing

So I'm working down in Leamington Spa this week and currently in the car on the way down with a new lad at work driving.
From our office to the hotel is 222 miles. I'm sat here constantly looking over my left shoulder at an empty inside lane. We have just joined a motorway with nothing infront and nothing behind and he went straight for the middle lane.
So far we have been passed on the left 17 times and this is no joke. 1 hour 45 mins of this fun to go.
Not sure how many more subtle hints I can drop before I ask him what the fk he is doing.

Ask him why he's doing it without appearing critical. You're stuck in a confined space with him for a long time. He also might tell you to get out of his vehicle and leave you stranded.
At the end of the journey suggest he reads the highway code.
Its a Pool car so not his and I'm training him this week so he kind if needs me. Might suggest we stop and buy a highway code at the services. At the end of the journey suggest he reads the highway code.
Print this out and put on his windscreen tonight.....

"Pah! I read in The News of the World that the inside lane is for lower class people and lorry drivers. It's full of degenerates, I'm not going there. The people behind me can wait."

Many years ago when I had not long passed my test, I asked my mum why she never got out of the middle lane and into the inside lane. She said it was because changing lanes was dangerous and also because she was worried that if she pulled into the inside lane then she might get stuck there and be unable to get out again when she encountered a slower vehicle in the inside lane.
There was so much fundamentally wrong with that, I didn't know where to begin.
I think some drivers just get into the middle lane and go onto mental cruise control.

My Dad always sat in the middle lane and always went on about these idiots moving from lane to lane. I know many, mainly women, who go straight for the middle lane as they feel safer.
OK my dad passed his test in the 50s but what with a far stricter driving test these days, how come they have allowed so many idiots to pass amd why isn't there a motorway part of the test, or at least a written test after a long talk.
BTW I passed my test first time even when the instructor asked me what the outside lane on a motorway was for?
My genuine answer was "It's for high speed cruising".
