How many attempts before you passed?

First time for car; 2 weeks (and 10 driving lessons) after my 17th. Had been driving MOT failure around the farm for a long time before that though.
First time for motorbike at aged 28 through the DAS thing.
Sadly proves nothing; as I am neither fast nor particularly skilled with car or bike. Ah well...

In before they started the Theory and trailer tests, etc and only hold a car licence as not done Motorbikes, yet...
Passed 1st time 35 days after my birthday having had 5 or 6 lessons but had spent many of the rest of those 35 days driving anywhere and everywhere with a family friend who was a retired Class 1 Police driver in the pax seat.
On handing me my test result the examiner said that he'd stopped marking after the first 10 minutes - yes I had made a few very minor 'textbook' errors but in their opinion there was no reason not to pass me as I seemed "perfectly competent."
My instructor could not believe that I had passed as apparently my examiner was know to be a bit of a bd. They were even more stunned when they saw the number of minors. To this day I think that either the sun was shining on me that day or there was some external influence like he'd failed every other bugger that month and so, as it was the last day of the month, thought he'd better pass someone! Who knows. Still took me 2.5 years and near on 150,000 miles to have my first (and so far only!) bump so maybe they were right to pass me

Passed third time, my first attempt I got to the test centre only to be told the chap in front of me test wise had ended up upside down in a ditch with 'my' examiner, and both were going to hospital...oops!
Second time I was literally (as in the examiner used his thumb and finger to demonstrate) about an inch too far to the left when taking a tight right turn.
Kept my third attempt secret and passed

3 times for me, passing late nineties.
1st time, nerves got me. Stupid mistake coming to a fork in the road where one lane goes one way and the other goes in the opposite direction. She (head examiners wife no less!) told me to get to the end of the road and turn right, so I took the right hand fork. Wrong that's the lane for oncoming traffic (even though it was empty at the time)
2nd time, Nerves got me again! I had an examiner, the examining examiner and my instructor in the car. Which was a Fiesta so it was cozy lol!
3nd time: Passed. Even though I had the head examiners wife again, AND she remembered me failing too (remember this was months after my first try) But I passed with only a couple of minors.
I think it was just the nerves of failing as I wanted to pass my test sooo badly.

Theory? CBT?
Life (and the driving test) was so much easier in days gone by.
Couldn't agree more. Passed first time after 5 lessons, 20 days after my 17th Birthday. No theory test then ( 1989 )Theory? CBT?

A friends daughter, on the other hand, has failed 13 times ! I'm starting to think that if you fail maybe 5 tests, then it's not for you.
