All to recently unfortunately. A1 between Berwick and Alnwick has a good 20 mile stretch that is single carriage way at NSL, not a big problem unless you get stuck behind an artic which are limited to 40.

On this occasion I came upon a horse box followed by 3 arctics followed by several cars all at 40 with no one overtaking an little to no spaces to begin leap frogging. No way I'm driving like this for the next 20 miles so from 5 cars back from the last artic I went WOT in second (E60 M5 in case your wondering) and began what I now consider a stylish over take of the entire train, past the cars and into third WOT, passed truck one, passed truck two, passing truck three, WOT into 4, passed the marked police car sat patiently behind the horse box. F********K.

Nothing I could do at this stage, pulled in front of the horse box still deep in triple figures and eased off thinking how the hell I'm gonna explain to the wife I'm possibly off to prison. Eased right back to 60, waited for the lights, siren and my world to end.

Nothing, police car continued behind the horse box with not a flicker. Smoked ten fags whilest driving via the rear view mirror still expecting a pull when they caught up. Still nothing so carried on my way at 59.9mph....

To be honest it gave me very good scare and reasses what I might or might not consider a good overtake.

Coming out of a very wet and muddy royal st George's car park a few years back in the old 335i (21 years old) with a few friends in the car.

Going along the field road (now a complete mud bath) fish tailing at 5mph trying to keep momentum and control to get up the tiny hill to the exit, all under the eye of the police, on pulling out, due to the mud coated tyres a perfect drift around the policeman at all of 10mph was performed Andre same agin (at similar speeds) around the roundabout (right turn) 10 yards after the exit. Despite there being waiting car in addition I was not stopped.

Thats probally the most brazen, I've made the decision to floor it when I clock a traffic/panda car that was coming towards me start to turn around to come after me on numerous occasions, have stopped and reversed a few times when encountering a scamera van when my front plate had "fallen off".

I've been let off speeding a few times, most recently flashing and beeping an unmarked car that went to pull out on me when proceeding at speed in the O/S lane causing him to swerve back in, thankfully it was neither speed rated or camera installed, been wagged a finger at when hooning down the A329m, when I chucked it around the final roundabout in front of a traffic car without slowing (we was unsighted from the junction), when I grew suspicious of the lights closing on me at 100+ I slowed, he pulled alongside, lit the end of the light bar wagged a finger and pulled in front...I followed

There are a few more bit not as exciting...

Been pulled a fair bit, always been respectful and polite and never had any points yet!

I remember one summers night I decided to take my Clio V6 out for a spin, engine covers off just to add to the noise (already had a quicksilver OMG on so quite loud!)

As I drove past my packed local I got a uncontrollable earge to floor it and almost immediately a police man jump out and pulled me over, he leaned in on my window and just as I got my best I'm very sorry face ready he said "fk, is that your engine in the boot? Oh yeah I remeber these from topgear, I bet it's quick? Erm actually yeah I saw how fast you can down that hill! Off you go mate take care, give it a bit for me" so I floored it to 30 then straight into fourth and trundled off a bit bemused

Last twice I've been stopped, both for speeding, got away scot free smile 1st time in a classic scooby (about 2yrs old then), last time in my (new to me) 996.
Fair shout to both coppers, especially the last one, certainly have a lot more respect for them now.

'May' have got away with other, non motoring related incidents but my memory seems to be playing up...

On the whole I'm a good boy smile

A long time ago (getting on for 20 yrs) I was having a bad day and rather put put my foot down along the Mumbles Road in Swansea. I was then chased by an off-duty WPC (I think she was a probationer) at speeds of up to 110mph on a 30/40mph road. When she caught up with me she was going mental, threatening me with all and sundry. I asked her what her Superintendent would make of her chasing someone in her private car, whether she was pursuit trained, if her car had a calibrated speedo and so on. She left, assuring me that I would be hearing from the police within the next 24 hours. I haven't heard back yet.

Bought a modified 850 T5 with tinted windows when I was 18. The windows contrasted the paintwork really well, but had the unfortunate effect of removing almost all your rear view.

On the first day I got it, I went for a drive with some friends in the car, and decided to boot it down a sliproad and onto the A2 to see what it could do. Got to about 120 with the intention to try for 150 when blue lights appeared right behind me. I immediately braked down to 80/90 and moved into the inside lane, at which point the bike cop pulled alongside me, waved his finger at me and accelerated away. Think I got very lucky that day!

An indicated 120mph on the A505 between Baldock and Royston a few years back. Got involved with some "spirited driving" with a silver 5 series. Just after the second jump on the anchors for one of the Gatsos down there and accleration back to silly speeds the blue lights in the grill of the 5 series started flashing. F**k unmarked car (obvious really)!! Anyway I stop and get out absolutely bricking it. The unmarked car has four officers in it. The driver gets out and gives me the full bking and I apologise profusely. Once I fully believed my licence was history he says that he couldn't do me as he was on a driver training exercise but that if he ever saw me doing those speeds again he'd throw the book at me. After the panic had subsided I was very, very relieved and I continued my journey at legal speeds!

I once bombed down a B road late at night, and passed a police X5 sitting back, concealed on a sideroad. I was sure they'd be after me for a look, but they never did follow. Not that I was going particularly fast, but I was the only car around for miles, other than the X5!

Early 1990s, winter, mid-evening and returning from Birmingham to Surrey in an Orion 1.6i. It was the day before I was going on holiday, so keen to get home and pack I was cruising just the far side of 100mph (I can get below it if I see anything, is my slightly less mature logic).

Cue marked police car in the inside lane. So I brake to 75ish, one car passes me and the marked car at 80ish, we both accelerate gently away. I have built back up to almost my original pace when I see the blue lights.

Will they pull me or Mr Slowed Down Less Than I Did who is still ahead of me?

They chose me, long talking to, "It's not you, it's the other drivers you have to worry about", Producer, "Off you go, and by the way God knows how fast you were going when you first saw us, we saw the headlights drop as you braked".

So that's why they chose me!

Two instances I can recall straight away!

I px'ed my old bike for a VFR750FL and rode it home from my mates in the cotswolds back to Wolves. Wound it on a little and as I passed a pub car park I saw some headlights switch on. I instantly knew it was the rozzers so I did what any like-minded sane individual would do - I caned it. Up to about 130mph.
Then I realised what I was doing and reined it back in. I dropped it to about 70-75mph, looking in my mirror to see the cops cornering in a Rover 216 on two wheels! I let them flash me a few times before nonchalantly looking over my shoulder as if I'd only just seen them.
Pulled over, got a bking for going too fast and as it was harvest time I "may hit tractors/combine harvesters etc. And who's going to have to tell your folk if you wind up dead?"

Second time, again on the bike. Got pulled over doing 106.6mph out of a bend (good job he wasnt standing BEFORE the bend after a 2 mile straight with his speed gun!).
Went to court this time. Got a solicitor to talk on my behalf.
Received 6 points, £330 fine and 2-weeks ban. Got my license back from DVLA only to find the points hadnt been put on. I phoned my solicitor to check I had them and he agreed and advised me to phone DVLA. I phoned and a nice lady had a look at my file and said they didn't apear to be on the records. Said they must have got lost inbetween the court and DVLA.
So kinda got away with that one!

Who on here has been caught doing something , motoring related or not, by the Fuzz and then somehow managed to get away with it ?

Was talking to an long time friend an we were reminiscing of times when being pulled by the plod for speed / driving related offences for them to then just send us on our way.

Reckon a few good stories could be dug up here.

Ladies and Gentleman ... Fire away!

I've received 'words of advice' on two or three occasions in my 57 years of driving, all on account of fairly minor speeding in built-up areas. If we take into account my attitude to the NSL, there's no doubt I've been exceedingly lucky, so far!

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Came up to the NE from Gatwick very late one night in my Gti , been hoofing it up the motorway , I get to about half a mile from home when I thrash it up the local lane at about 70+ in a 30 , there's a little parking area at the bottom where I had seen plod parked up before.

As I went hoofing past , he started up and put his blue lights on , I kept on going turned a very quick right then turned my lights off , then turned another right into our street , he went past the top of our estate with his blue lights flashing.

I put the car in the garage and went inside , a few minutes later the police car was doing a slow ride around our estate looking no doubt for my car.

A few weeks later, I went up the local lane again but at the 30 mph limit , when the police car saw me he came out and followed me home , turned around and left.

Empty Industrial estate roads and carpark + night time + fresh snow. You can work out the rest.

Police pull up and ask what I'm up to. Its hard to lie your way out when there is snow drift marks around corners and donut marks in fresh snow that lead right up to your car. I said I was learning to control the car in the snow just in case.

The copper laughed then went on to say he was going to be busy that night with accidents and if I wasn't going anywhere to just go home and park the car up for the night now I learnt my advance driving skills.

I got away with that once, tried it a 2nd time & he'd obviously clocked my VRN & followed me to the registered address frown
What an areshole he was, didn't even mention my speed (80+ in a 50), just nicked me for crossing (only just) white zig zags. Last time I got points that was, must be over 10yrs ago smile

Quite a few but the first one that sprung to mind was one Sunday night driving down the M5 a little after 11pm with the cruise set to something like 98 in my old Frontera.

I spotted some lights approaching from behind me as I approached a tanker so I indicated, changed lanes and pulled back into L1 after I'd passed it. The car I saw coming was sat in my blindspot. Figured it was the rozzers and I was already nicked so just left the CC set and waited for the blue lights.

Nope, they sat there for a minute or so then the nose raised and they shot off.

A couple spring to mind!

18 years old (circa 2001) in an H reg Mini Cooper S RSP, black, white woof, wide arches, 13" super lights, twin carbs/k&n's, a fruity exhaust and 3 of us inside. Down Hyde road into Manchester one night, someone tried it on in a car I forget so went for it, getting up to a silly speed (for a Mini). Matey boy suddenly veers off down a side road and then I see the lights flashing behind. Pulls me over, literally dragged me and the keys out of the car and proceeds with a massive telling off. At this point a van also pulls up, copper starts reading me my rights whilst they open the back doors and I'm thinking how I explain this to my parents and whether or not they were going to leave my P&J in the middle of a rough part of Manchester (it had just been sprayed, it looked mint!). They then tried to say my wheels were sticking out of the arches too far, I replied with 'that's how it came out of the Rover factory, blame them'...it didn't but they were the same arches that were on the current Rover Mini Cooper S so seemed plausible. Anyway, after the telling off I was told not to do it again and be on your way. Massively lucky but all I can think is that they had no proof and I never actually admitted what speed I hit despite being almost bullied into saying a speed that was not "30mph officer".

Second one was last week. The last 7 years have been spent driving various diesels. I've had my current car (MK2 Octavia VRS 2.0T) for just over a month. I'm very much enjoying a redline that starts with a 6 instead of 4!

Anyway I'm on the M60 and I see a grey BMW tonking it on to the motorway in front of me. I catch it up a mile or so down the road as its stuck behind an elderly gentleman doing 65 in lane 3 seemingly not wanting to move over. I can see that the BMW is getting agitated and when the old duffer finally moves he guns it. I follow suit. At 90 the BMW moves over and the road is completely empty in front. I gun it some more to a speed I won't disclose. I start to catch another car so literally just roll off the gas and coast back down to 90, at which point I check my mirrors and the BMW is now approaching. Quickly. I then see the blues! Oh st!. He pulls alongside, gives me a wave and a smile and disappears. I'm still wondering why the hell he let me off, perhaps it was because he was speeding as well with seemingly no particular reason apart from he had a powerful BM to play with!

Pulled, showed the speed gun, giving a bking, even told I would be prosecuted.... nothing ever turned up!

I was being driven by a friend in his Veyron on the M1 (dry...downhill stretch...no traffic at all) at a speed which started with a 2. wink
