I have a company car provided through a lease company. Our HR department manage the cars.

Today I get call from HR saying the lease co have been in contact with a gent who had bought my car unseen. Has it been stolen? I confirm that I have both the car and keys in my possetion. So what's the deal, has the car been cloned, what precautions can I take?

not sure I understand the issue???

is the lease up soonish and some bloke has entered into an aggreement to buy at the end of contract??
or some guy claiming he was sold it n now wants the keys....

either way,, not your issue.. The companys contract is with the lease co.. you give the car back to HR/lease company when its up..

your buck stops there

I'd say someone has bought a cloned car or pictures of your car have been used in a scam advert.

The car is 10 months into a 3 year lease. My concern is a NIP in the post from the cloned car or the clone gets up to worse.

Why is there any significance to the fact he bought it unseen if he now has the car anyway?
I suspected there is no cloned car he's just be straight cheated

sounds to me like he's been the victim of an online scam and rather than use images from another advert they have either used photos of your car or used photos with blanked out plates and issued him with your reg number as "his car" once he's paid via western union etc. Once it wasn't delivered he's trying to find out where it is.

Sounds like cloning to me.

As its been flagged to the lease company & your HR bods I'd have thought 1 or the other will be speaking to Plod.

This happened to a colleague a few years ago & she did get a NIP. It was proved that the other car was the miscreant & not my colleague because she had a sticker of some sort on her rear screen that was not on the clone when it went through a speed camera.

If I were you I'd get a GB sticker tomorrow & put that on back & something for front screen too. It saved her a lot of hassle.
