yes My personal preference is indeed for BMW. I had an A4 for a while a couple of years back and other than the obviously inferior handling (unfair to judge on that though I think), it was noisier, less economical and less powerful. However, I can well believe what you say about the A6, as I've driven an A5 on a few occasions and I was very impressed. When compared to the 5 series, the A5 (and perhaps A6?) really is right up there, with just the handling to differentiate the two.

When I was swapping my older S320cdi estate I looked at the 530d, E350 and the 3.0tdi Quattro.
I thought the A6 was best for me, but it was too much money, nearly £40k for a 6 month old one, 530d was around £30k and I bought the Merc for considerably less.

But the new A6 in quattro guise is very nice.

Only if you get the BiTDI, all the other models have inferior transmissions frown

Friend of mine had Audis, moved to the XF and now has a new XJ.
I'm glad they're not creasing the st out of it like the Germans do. The Merc A-Class is laughable.

They all now have STronic/DSG which I quite like. The biturbo gets the older Tiptronic.

IMHO STronic just doesn't suit this sort of car. It is a refined executive saloon, it needs a proper autobox not a dual clutch automated manual. The BiTurbo actually gets ZF's 8 Speed auto - the best possible transmission for this type of car.

I imagine they sell many of those. 85k for a 3 litre diesel, or pay 10k less and buy get an RS6.

I'd imagine so, a quick look on the Audi configuration shows:

1.2k for HUD
1.5k for some aluminium interior trim
2k for alcantara headlining
2k for adaptive suspension
1k for electric seats
6k for B&O speakers

st a duck!

At least you'd be getting decent mpg so saving money rolleyessilly

The funny part is that there will be a few of those on the road as company cars for people working for Audi.

Even if we strip those off though, that's still a £70k car, which is bizarre for something so ordinary.

Incidentally, does the CEO himself fit the alcantara headlining? £2k?! That's the same as the adaptive suspension...
