Nice bit of backtracking there, and that does not explain the need for some people to take every opportunity to tar the reputation of products they have had no involvement with.
Want involvement do you have?

IMO I'd go with proven brands rather than gamble my money that the likes of LL have caught up.

The prejudices will die out when they stop selling crap products and enough of the people who have previously had bad experiences with them are willing to risk wasting some more money on them.
If the products were as bad as some people assert then they would have gone out of business long before the above would happen, yet they grow and grow....confused
I've experienced Ling Longs and Nankangs. They were both pretty awful to be honest.

r11co, what tyres do you use?

I get the impression you don't like spending money and are trying to justify your purchase of some Chinese tyres with less than adequate grip levels.

No experience if Ling Long but I do have Nankang N607 all seasons on a Ford Galaxy. They were reasonably priced, not the cheapest.
I wanted to try all season tyres as I feel given the wether overall they are the best compromise.
They have been fine in the wet and dry. There wasn't really cold weather to test 'winter' ability of the tyre but they feel solid and reassuring in cold and heavy rain.
Yeah I tried the Nankang N607s on my Suzuki Jeep instead of the usual Bridgestone Duelers. Absolutely brilliant with no cause for concern. Given the cost would consider them again. The Bridgestones are great tyres but expensive, had a couple of Suzuki Jeeps from 1999 to 2013 so plenty of experience of Bridgestone Duelers in all conditions.

It's not backtracking at all. If a brand earns a track record for producing decent tyres I don't care where they come from. I would be equally sceptical of cheap unknown tyres from Germany.

At the end of the day is trying to save £5 a tyre worth the risk, they may be great, but they may be crap, if they have to come off because they don't do what you want them to do that £5 saved soon looks a bit pathetic.

Winter tyres very massively anyway, I had Conti WinterSports a couple of years back and they were crap imho, hardly any better than the Michelin Latitude Tour HPs I have now, which although is an M+S tyre is classed as All Season.

Dunlop 4D is my favourite at the moment.

Depends what you want from a tyre though, I have just bought some Goodyear Efficientgrip 4x4 tyres as they are meant to be extremely comfy and one of the quietest tyres out there. Will they last as long as the Michelins? Will they be as good feedback wise? I don't know, but as long as they are quieter and more comfy I will be happy.

My experience of one of their products was poor enough to try to discourage someone else from wasting their money on another one. I have had much better experience's with Nexen and for the difference in price I know what my choice would be.
The irony being that Nexen is a Korean brand that was being summarily dismissed along with its compatriots Kumho and Hankook in this very forum not so long ago simply for being Korean and not of the established brands. I do believe the term ditchfinder was originally coined around them.

Even when I pointed out seven year ago that Hankook tyres were being line fitted by Volkswagen I was argued out of town for even suggesting that a comically-named tyre could be anything but rubbish. Clearly PH forum posters at the time knew better than the Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft.

My continued ire over the irrational criticism levelled at value tyres is that most of those commenting today are displaying the same traits as the prejudiced souls from a decade ago who have since been proved wrong.

My point being that opinions date very quickly and are practically worthless if they are grounded on a limited span of experience, knowledge and research. They can be discounted completely if they do not even touch upon the subject being discussed.

I don't disagree with everything you have said , its just a shame you had to be a little unpleasant at first.

One of the reasons I have chosen Nexen and Hankook ( Kinergy Eco ) is that they are used by major car manufacturers. I have noticed VW , Ford IRC and obviously the Korean companies using both these brands and I believe they are less likely to equip the cars with something substandard or unsafe. ( though ford did have some problem with firestone I believe).

I have yet to see linglong being used in this way and currently in my experience I think there are better products available for little or no difference. So I suggest the OP buy another brand. I am not suggesting that every value tyre( like Nexen ) or every Chinese brand is awful just the one I experienced. To be honest I have been far more impressed by the Nexen npriz 4s on our dog car than I have with the Pirelli on my Impreza.

Perhaps one day my cars will again use Linglong , but only when I start to see some more evidence that they have improved their products. Just like Hankook , Kumho and Nexen have done.

I believe Hankook are OE on certain BMWs too. Nexen are making great progress, but Kumho... well, they've had money issues.

The GreenMax subbrand of Linglong /is/ a better product, but it's still not a midrange product. They've very much produced to a price point. You'll have noticed as the quality of Hankook and Nexen have improved, so has the price. While this is partly due to marketing, good tyres DO cost more to make.

This has run its course and we don't need more winter tyre threads.
