Lots of good choices in this segment; I'd consider a Caterham 7, Toyota Hilux or Lotus Eclat

I'd buy an old suzuki swift. Chicks dig them.

Or a 100hp Ibiza.

And Op. Stop being a 'tard

Not to keen on the look of the Ibiza but I'm not sure yet, anyone's opinion on the 1.9 Punto Grande Sporting?

Go and test drive one, or search for reviews on the internet like most people have to do.

Anyone got any suggestions
Yep. When I was around your age I bought a 190E Mercedes. The chicks 'dig a charging Merc.

Diesel hatchbacks are a bit of a last resort. They're for when times are hard.

Test drove a PD130 Ibiza once when I was doing a fair few miles a week but I'm glad I didn't buy it. Replacement hoses, turbo chargers etc can undo any notion of fuel economy. And most importantly, the engine was a bit boring. Pokey and muscular, but totally lacking in character.

Any other suggestions other than these, anyone had any of these cars?
I will be 18 when I get one of these cars, so no more than a 1.9, got quoted at £1300 on a Seat Leon 1.9 TDI

Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCI

Fiat Punto 1.9 MultiJet Diesel

Renault Clio 1.5dci 106 BHP

Seat Leon 1.9 TDI 2006+

Vauxhall Corsa 1.7 CDTI 2006+

Volkswagen Golf 2004+ 1.9 TDI

Alfa Romeo 147 1.9 JTD

The ford is good on fuel but will cost you a ridiculous amount of money when the turbo/injectors go. Not recommended at all

The Fiat is not good at all

The Renault will have fuel pump problems & electrical problems don't buy it

The seat with have the following things: Make sure the timing belt is done every 60K if no history then get her done. DMF's can go faulty and cost £5-800 to have replaced. I recommend these though!

Corsa may have some fuel pump/injector faults. Also DMF faults & ECU faults. Aside from that i recommend.

Golf is the same as the seat. Very reliable and bullet proof

Alfa: beautiful car and they always drive well while they are working. But massively unreliable

Seat or golf is my recommendation.
