Buy this and use the change to fit equal length headers. You could also try http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1994-Mercedes-Benz-SL600...

Sound like a Zonda for under £10k: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5ZIomet8Yk

I'm sorry, but the Alfa V6 Busso makes the VAG V6 sound like a monk who's taken a vow of silence.

My old E39 M5 with custom back boxes was pretty incredible.

Standard E39 M5 isn't for shrinking violets either

For something a little cheaper to maintain than the majority of the above, how about the Mk2 Focus ST. Has a great 5 Cylinder warble and can be improved further with an after market exhaust.

That's true, I had a guy turn up to my house in one to pick up some old M5 parts I was selling and I thought he also had the mod, turned out his was standard and I'd forgotten how loud mine was. I always thought mine was about right, comfortable below 4k and pretty angry above it. smile

Have heard that about that ST - pre-facelift nicer looking too.

The idea of a CLK55 for under £5k is interesting though...

FFS, this used to be a TVR forum back in the day, nearly 2 pages and nobody has suggested a RV8 engine TVR Chimaera! cloud9

Cooper S JCW? Always think they sound good when they go past at reasonable chat.
Sit inside one and the exhaust is barely audible. Definitely don't buy a JCW for the exhaust note.

I have had a Busso V6 and a couple of VAG V6's (R32/ Corrado VR6). Both incredible engines- for me the Busso has the better induction/engine sound but I don't think I have ever had a better Exhaust sound than that lovely VR6 offbeat warble.

I have a Mk5 GTI now in exactly the same spec as the R32- I am sure there is a great driving experience in there somewhere but I haven't yet managed to work through the disappointment that it doesn't woofle into life like the old R32 did :-(

Crazy!! I thought about the Chim but suggested a Cerbera with an AJP because of the (presumed) requirement for back seats smile

Or GT 3.2 V6. Not sure it'd sneak in under cheap to run though.

Or a GTV! For me it's no contest, the Alfa V6 is one of the best-sounding engines at any price.

Alfa Romeos, Audi S4s, BMW M5s, RX8, CLK55 AMG - none of these cars fit in the low maintenance category if we are being honest!

For around £10k you could get a Focus ST with the 5-cylinder engine, an early 350Z (the engine sounded best then), E46 M3 (although it will be a high mileage one), Vauxhall Monaro, Honda S2000 (screams like a banshee) or if you are partial to a boxer burble and Burberry get a WRX STi.
