I think I know what's coming but this is the car as I bought it before we carried out all the mods

So is this the 'Ratsun' orginally?

I don't get the rat look personally, but the mods are very tasteful

I'm old enough to remember these when they were current, and to have driven one, and always felt they seemed a bit of a heavyweight bruiser compared to, say, a 3.0 Capri
I might be mistaken, but does the engine in restored car sound very 'top-end rattly' ?
Notwithstanding that, lovely cars, well done guys.

Yes...That's the Ratsun before....Not a spot of rust anywhere but the paintwork was typical of a US paint job and it merely flicked off in lumps and that's what was underneath.

Love this channel- production costs must be expensive because they do it so damn well. Particularly enjoyed the 312 PB video a while back.

Lighter and more sophisticated than a 3.0 Capri.

Did you drive a dud?

The sound from a well-fettled straight six must be among the contenders for best engine noise?

Perhaps it was just my perception as a 19 year old, at the time I was driving a (now rare Prairie Yellow) XR3.
To be fair, a 3.0 Capri felt heavy compared to my Escort.

At the time, 'Big Sam' was still alive and kicking in my memory, and what a car THAT was.

A 240Z was pretty much the same weight as an early Capri - both would have felt heavier than an XR3 - at least 150 - 200 heavier

Most market 240Zs would have been around 50kg or so lighter than a 3.0 Capri by my reckoning, but the Z would be giving away 600cc in capacity of course.

Like the Capris, as they got older they put on weight

I remember some of the ones at the Zed Shed were quite a bit different in weight depending on year and where they'd been sourced from

Ref the "feel" of the Petrolicious vid, I can see what you mean

The U.S. 240Z Video looks a higher production quality

Compare roadhandling? A Z looks sharper, at least on the tracks.

I would call it a Mocksun than Ratsun.
This is the Z that inspired things 5 years ago

The aspect that I enjoyed with the car above is that the wear/tear/sun baked paint and the burnt smoke from the cutting of the rear arches were all due the Californian environment and the lack of budget of the guy doing it.

You have the budget, but you roughed it up to make it rustic, worn and aged in the same way as another Mockney.

Cracking set of cars!

And yes, to say as many have said previously... The video doesn't quite seem to usual Petrolicious quality, bit of a shame really as Britain makes a nice change from 'Murica!

I've just watched it again and it does seem a bit noisy from the top end compared to how I remember them

Maybe it's just the speaker/sound recording though?
