Hey everyone,

Buying an E36 325i from Swansea. I'd like to make the most of the trip back to London, can anyone recommend some interesting roads, routes and places which may be anywhere between the two places and not massively out the way?

Head North of Swansea and head north into the Brecon Beacons? Nice route along the A4069. Can then head across or take the A4059 down towards Penderyn and back down the A470 to join the M4. Some decent driving roads along there.

Stay the first night around Swansea.

Tons of amazing roads around there.

Gower is good and then there are Black Mountains, Brecon or even The Valleys.

I'd actually love to be able to stay the night there but realistically I don't think I could afford to at the moment, which is gutting as I'd love to be able to attend the breakfast meet as well... The locations mentioned above around wales look amazing however.

From Swansea, follow M4 Cardiff. When you see the exit for A465 / Merthyr, take that. A465 to Hirwaun. At the island, take the first exit (A4069 IIRC).

When you get to Brecon, at the island, take the third exit. Next island, take the A40 exit.

That'll bring you out onto the A449 eventually, then South to the M4.

Is good!

Mind you, it might make you decide to pack up city life and head for the heights

If you've got a bit of time you can avoid the M4 and use some great driving and scenic roads.

North out of Swansea on the A4067 to Ystalyfera then left onto the A4068. At Brynaman turn right onto the A4069 to Llangadog, great road used by Top Gear and others, watch out for hidden speed traps. At Llangadog keep right on the A4069 to Llandovery then turn onto the A40 to Abergavenny then on to Monmouth. At Monmouth turn right onto the A4136 and drive through the Forest of Dean. Join the A40 again then go round the Gloucester by pass exiting on the A417 to Cirencester. Keep on the A417 (it will look like you're turning off the main road) and follow it all down the Thames Valley - Lechlade, Farringdon, Wantage to Streatley then onto the A329 to Pangbourne. At Pangbourne take the A340 (I think it's signed to M4)then onto the A4 then onto the M4 at J12.

Glorious drive with plenty of very pleasant looking hostelries for a bite to eat.

I would do this except at Monmouth follow the Wye Valley down to Chepstow an then M4 home.

Google image "The Bwlch"...and drive it over and over all day long, all my memories of learning to drive are of this mountain. A must do in my opinion and you can drop onto the A470 down to the M4 before going home.
