It's more unique in having the engine slung out at the back, non?

Danielsan - yes it was a magazine featured car with the previous owner on buying a £10K 996 & then improving it....the car had a knackered engine (not for the normal reasons) at purchase & they then did a Hartech upgrade & so on. It was actually a step or two beyond RPM in that it had a lightened interior too. I'm gutted I sold it as it was a unique car.

I own an Elise and it, like an Exige are no way as useable as a 911. Cheaper to run, probably better to drive but I won't say it has the breath of abilities as the Porsche.

An M3 is dull in comparison IMO. It is a quick family car, not a sports car.

Every now and then an Evora with miles on it shows up for significantly less than £30K, which would probably be closest to the Porsche proposition and the one I'd choose. If not a daily, a late Cerbera with properly sorted suspension and electrics would be another one. Every time I'm in one I marvel at what a thorougly nice experience a good'un is. smile

As a usable daily proposition the 996 beats a lot of aircooled cars in that it can be used and doesn't rust.
So, rust or engine failure, take your pick! wink
So the aircooled's never had engine issues?

Some people have very short term (or selective) memories.

Wow. Spending about as much money for mods as the donor car, and you don't even get to know the measurable difference in power?!? I gather there are also no stats available in terms of stopwatch improvements either?

Unbelievably galling.

I've already built my own with the help of 9m
Owes me ITRO £20k including the donor car.

The base 996 C2 is a lot lighter than the GT3, once stripped out, your looking at around 1250kg.
The best thing about my car is the handling, the cornering ability astonishes most passengers.
Ok, 300bhp isn't going to set the world on fire but as a whole package it ticks a lot of boxes!

That looks sooooo right, and don't sell it short - 300 horse power in sub 1300kgs would be plenty enough for me!! (Let me know if you want to sell ;0)

M96 engine isnt the best for serious track work though, due to the oil starvation issues

Unfortunately the plate is 1998, so too late to be fitted to an E30!

True, we've fitted Porsche's 996 baffled Motorsport engine sump to help maintain oil pickup in fast corners. You can get deeper sumps too, but as the car runs so low I didn't think reducing the clearance by 25mm was a good idea!

Sifly - that is a truly lovely bit of kit you've put together there.

One question: how do you get on with a cage in road use? I'm assuming this is primarily a track car, but as much as I like the idea of extra rigidity / crash protection for track work, I'd personally worry about cracking my bonce on the scaffolding when not in a lid.
