I had a cam go, new cam fitted and that went (hardening isssue I guess) 2 x cambelt failures and 2 x holed pistons. No worse than anything else of the era though, I can't quite see the point in using them now.
I take it that the holed pistons were nothing to do with the cambelt, because the Pinto is a non-interference engine. Even on my Westfield engine (Pinto, Maxiflow head, fast road cam, twin Dellortos, etc) the valves do not extend down beyond the gasket line and the piston crowns have no protrusions - so no-clash.
No holed pistons were detonation I think. Two different occasions I replaced a piston in one and then had an engine from a scrapper when it happened again.

I am a bit of a nostalgia freak. Worked in historic houses for many years. Now retired, but I like to keep things original. Just me, I know others feel differently.

If I have something that can no longer be kept original I do not then mind modifications, for example I have a 1955 TV cabinet which has a record player in drawer underneath. Obviously old TV no longer works so I have fitted a 4:3 computer monitor in it with a digibox. Still looks original, but it works.

Also use a 1936 radiogram every day, but have modified so I can feed digital radio or MP3 player through it. Sound knocks the spots off modern equipment.
In that case get something properly old and even easier to fix/maintain rather than a rusty old shed of a Sierra, which isn't properly old, it's just a dire 80's stbox....espcially Pinto powered ones.

Certainly doesn't look rusty. Nice colour as well
I'd keep it going if you enjoy it chap

Thread resurrection.

I have just bought a Pinto as a quick win engine upgrade for a recent RWD escort purchase. Its a running Engine complete with alloy sump.

My heart was saying Zetec or ST170, but I also got a complete second hand Pinto exhaust system for peanuts as well, and this particular pinto wont need anything more than some extended wires, a coil and a fuel line connected to run.

Might be a good idea to fit a new spray bar to the cam - Pintos eat camshafts if the bar gets sludged up.
