Parents had an MGB roadster they took me out in when I was young, and I loved every second of it. Still remember my dad playing Vivaldi's four seasons on cassette on a summer drive one time.

I grew up around wrecks- my uncles had all of their old motorbikes rotting in the back garden. When we moved up north my dad got a SIII landrover and we were always getting new scrappie-dodger vans which lasted about a year before being junked. One of my youngest memories is my dad assembling my cousins Honda CB750 in the kitchen of our flat.

I think what sealed it though was my dad getting an old Triumph 2500 with twin carbs, and then bringing home two decades worth of Practical Classics magazine from somewhere. Set my course in life I'd say. It helped that we had a big rotting garden shed full of cool tools and a couple of lawnmower engines. Thesedays I don't even have a driveway. frown

I think it's just a natural obsession, I was always fascinated by them when I was a lad without any encouragement.

I used to watch adults drive through the gap in the front seats, studying every move they made with the pedals, gears etc. longing for the day when I was old enough to do it myself. I had to make do with my imagination, when I went to bed I'd go under the covers, doing all the noises and copying the pedal work etc. I'd seen the adults doing.

My 7 year old son is the same his favourite things are toy cars, films about cars and video games with cars. He's always been the same without any coaxing at all. Trucks are all good as well as he demands I put on Euro Truck Simulator on a regular basis!
