It annoys me Caterham just double the HP figure for the name and pretend its the PTW figure.

620R has 310 bhp and weights 545KG (not 500kg) thus it should be called the 568R smile

360 = 336 etc

I agree, the Superlight model just about saved Caterham when the Elise was released and they wanted to highlight the difference between their cars and the Lotus.

The sort of person who would ditch Superlight as a model name is probably the one who thought it was a good idea to throw away an iconic badge designed by Lotus for the Seven and replace it with a rectangular abomination.

The new names are silly. I would suggest weighing each model and using its kerb weight as the model name smile

only took 65 months for the right topic to come up so you could make your first post wink

Back to original story, bit confused how this will work. My understanding is the current classic , roadport and R versions had overlap in power options but obviously different spec cars. How will this work moving forward ?

Be glad there's no Stop/Start technology installed!

http://int.caterhamcars.com/cars/seven-485

The Seven 485 is the most potent EU5-compliant Seven we've ever made.

The high performance, range-topping variant of the iconic sports car is the latest model available in mainland Europe and beyond, boasting extreme performance and technical enhancements, taking the minimalist, lightweight philosophy to a new level. Channelling the Caterham brand’s philosophy of ‘accessible fun’, the new 2.0-litre Seven joins its existing EU5-compliant 1.6 and 2.0-litre models.

Designed to provide a new high performance benchmark, the 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine which powers Caterham’s premium range of Sevens has been re-developed to be more powerful but still EU5-compliant in conjunction with the Caterham Group’s engineering consultancy, Caterham Technology & Innovation (CTI). CTI’s extensive development work has resulted in an additional 65ps over the most powerful existing EU5 Caterhams available across Europe, Japan and many other countries worldwide, delivering formidable, high-adrenalin performance. The new engine delivers its peak power at a lofty 8,500rpm, resulting in one of the world’s highest revving EU5-compliant engines which also boasts an incredible 120ps-per-litre.

New to Caterham, the latest car includes a ‘Sport’ mode which, when selected, provides the car with even sharper driving characteristics, while enabling the vehicle to deliver its peak performance. Other key engineering enhancements include a new-look exhaust arrangement, which removes the need for a rear-exit exhaust system, reducing back pressure and weight by 13kg. Performance is bold – the sprint to 100kph takes just over three seconds, before propelling the Seven 485 to a maximum speed of 225kph. The power is conveyed to the road via a six-speed gearbox and the new car sits on adjustable dampers with Eibach Springs.

The Seven 485 is available with both the standard chassis and the wide-bodied 'SV' chassis. The standard chassis offers the compact lightweight dimensions that have made the Seven a legend in its 50 year history.

The SV chassis gives increased interior and luggage space due to the greater width and length of the car, making it suited for extended touring or for customers over 6'2" in height. The SV also benefits from the additional stability offered by wide-track front suspension and increased range from a larger fuel tank, with a 50kg weight penalty over the standard chassis.

All Caterham Seven models are built as a turn key solution in our factory in Dartford, UK.

HIGHLIGHTS
Track-proven specification for unparalleled performance
Most powerful EU5-compliant Seven ever made
Delivers peak power at a mind-boggling 8,500rpm
'Sport' mode to sharpen driving characteristics
New enhanced exhaust system

Isn't it more that they default it to a "normal" mode to pass the emissions tests etc...a work around if you will.
Load of old bks but that's unintended consequences for you.

Every time I think of buying one of these I price up my ideal build and end up asking the same questions, where is the money going? And look at what else I can get for the same money! I'm just not sure I want one badly enough. I know I could scale back my aspirations but that would only niggle away at me over the long run.

I either need to take the plunge or write the idea off completely.
exactly.

I keep looking at coming back to a Caterbang - most memorable and emotive vehicle I've ever owned, and the only one I sold for significantly more than I sold it for (it's in the classifieds now for even more than that now!!).

I fancy a Supersport R self build, but maybe they will do another set of run out specials to get rid of anything that becomes obsolete in the new line up. The last CDX they did was a great value purchase, and one I considered before I went for the second hand Tracksport.

And yes, I have tried an alternative, and to me it just wasn't the same - a bit like having 2 cooked breakfasts, one at a greasy spoon for £3, and one at a farm shop where it's all their own organic produce. All have similar ingredients, but both have completely different flavour, aroma, appearance, and one makes you feel satisfied after, where the other makes you feel a bit dirty..... punch
