They gave me £1000 more for my S3 than I was asking for on PH, and then took 2 attempts selling it through BCA Bedford, loosing £750 in the process.

Car last spotted on a main dealers forecourt in west London, £450 less than I sold it for.

I love WBAC

Not sure what they're like on cheaper stuff but their prices on late dearer stuff are comedy gold.

I know it's not there usual fayre but I do remember them offering £150 for an '86 280 Capri which the owner promptly sold for £7 grand.
Offered me £95 for my 280!!!!!!!!!
I'd happily give you a £100 and probably throw in my 2.8i as well - bargain !

As its owned by BCA and they put the cars thru their auctions, why not just put it thru yourself??

Because they often go through at less than WBAC paid for them, it is a gamble they take.
You can take the gamble yourself if you want.

Theyt are a bunch of s, if you want cash fast and willing to take a hit, a good choice
In what way are they a bunch of s?

I bought my sister a car as a surprise present so I couldn't use her old one as a trade in. She punted the old one via WBAC for about £300 less than the cheapest similar one on Autotrader. I think it was £3000 or so from memory... hazy now. When you consider people are going to haggle on the Autotrader listed price anyway, plus you're going to need to waste time arranging viewings / having strange people at your door / risking getting ripped off or robbed completely etc, I think its a brilliant way to dispose of a mass market, generic modern car.

It is never going to the best option for every seller of every vehicle. Nor is a private sale, nor a trade in, nor any other disposal route

It is handy to have as an option and does what it says on the tin. Never known a WBAC rep come round and force someone to sell a car to them at the price quoted.

Reasonable example of technology applied to a relatively free market

Interesting reading this, been speaking to them this week about taking my 12 plate Leon off me, thinking of buying my company car that's being offered cheap, after a few days thinking about it I'm keeping it as the risk on the Beemer at high miles is too much, I though the price was fair, local seat dealer offered me less. Think they like certain cars they know they can shift on

They bought my 6 months old DS3 off me in 2012, for £1000 MORE than any Citroen dealer I rang offered me.

They knocked £50 off for a stone chip, and there was a weird 1cm Mark on the edge of the door that was more like a paint defect, he let me off that

I was very pleased, paid finance off instantly, and ther rest into my account

I tried, but they offered £3000 on a car that ranged on AT from £3750 (Cat C repaired) to average of £4250 and up to £4600. No thanks!
And this is the main problem with WBAC, peoples expectations.

So, you were offered £3k on a car that is all over Autotrader for £4200 average?
And you think that is bad?

So, they buy that car for £3000?

They sell it at auction for maybe £3300?
They have made £300 less the £50 tax that leaves them £250.

If a trader buys that car for £3300, £3600 after buyers fees, that leaves £600 profit in the car if they sell for £4200.

Expecting them to pay any more than £3000 is madness, they are a business not a charity.

We sold a 3 year old Mini that was £14300 new to them for £9820, some £2,000 better than the best trade in offer and within £2-500 of the price of the same car on the Mini website.

If you have a car that will sell well they pay top whack, if you have something that is not desirable you will get of offer that reflects that imho.

I got bids off quite a few WBAC type outfits a couple of weeks ago, I sold it to SellCar eventually for £1200 more than WBAC offered. A guy came to my house, checked the car, rang the office to OK everything and didn't leave until the money was in my bank. I couldn't fault them, very professional, I'd definitely use them again. I don't understand why you have to wait four days for your money through WBAC when faster payments are instant.

They are fair enough really, no they are not going to give you top dealer price, of course not - but they are also aren't going to ring you up a week later saying that your engine has blown or whatever. People saying they only got offer £17k for a car on forecourts for £20k are just being stupid.

The only question for me is which of these services are best - there are dozens of them.

Is this not just the same as the insurance quotes for £10k when everyone else is £1k - they just don't want it / the business?

A Capri 280 is hardly going to be in the latest issue of Glass's Guide.

Very true but the Capri is just an example of many older 'domestic' cars that are valued and sell for considerably more than they're realistically worth. Perhaps we need a classic version of WBAC ?

Exactly the problem. They use a automated pricing database - the quotes come back instantly. If it something too specialist, 'computer says no' and you need to use a non-automated pricing service.
