Just thought I'd offer my thoughts, as I sold one of my cars this weekend to them. I don't know what their reputation is like amongst the pistonhead collective, but I have to say my experience was fantastic.

Rocked up on the day that I booked, really friendly blokes who work there, absolutely zero pressure sale. They took a quick look at the car, noted the stone chips on the front which I had already highlighted, didn't mark down anything else. They commented on just how good condition the car was in relative to its age, had quick drive around the car park and job done.

The money takes four days to come through to the bank - due today. Assuming that actually happens without a hitch I would highly recommend this service as a genuine hassle free way to sell a car. I was expecting to be wholesomelly rogered on the original quote, but it didn't happen.

The rub: The purchase price was already way below advertised prices on Autotrader. But mindful that all the cars on Auto-T are for sale, and not sold, and that I wanted both a sold car, and an easy transaction without the hassle of timewasters and dodgy folk kicking my front door in, I was well chuffed.

Afterwards, I did a quick quote on our Evoque too, just to see, and that was only £2k below retail asking prices on Auto Trader, which I thought was really good.

Has anyone else used them?

I have. Good service and a fair price too. I vaguely knew the guy running the branch I was at. He said that the buying price is tightly controlled by the 'computer'. He let me see the screen and worked through why he marked the price down (not by much).

Was doubly pleased when I went back the next week and the price on screen had gone up by a couple of hundred.

The cars all disappear on a big transporter, so I'm guessing that there's little incentive for the guy in front of you to fob you off with a shyte price and potentially lose the sale.

Punted quite a few motors to them over the years. Often for more than a dealer had offered as a trade in.

Never had any problems on being beaten down, in fact on one of the occasions the dude actually took off a few chips I'd declared as he didn't think they were big enough to warrant a knockdown on the price so actually walked away with more than I had aimed for.

Your car isn't "mint" unless it's just out the show room. I think this is where many people go wrong and insist their cars are mint when in fact they are not.

lol. I asked about ownership and apparently they aren't owned by Carcraft any more, its National Car Auctions, or something like that. smile

I tried, but they offered £3000 on a car that ranged on AT from £3750 (Cat C repaired) to average of £4250 and up to £4600. No thanks!

To be fair now they are owned by British Car Auctions, the valuations of niche and odd ball cars are now just priced by "we cannot value this car we need to see it."

I have a 205 gti , mk1 golf gti & r5 GT turbo and lads at work put reg and details in and that's what comes up on each.

Has that changed? I'm sure they used to transfer the money to your bank there and then.

Was a bit dismayed when p/xing daughter's car recently that the dealer used WBAC to value it.

They offered me just under £16,000 for my car (I can't remember exactly). I didn't want to sell it, but I'd be very happy to get that without hassle and time wasters.

After the ballache of selling my last car privately and previously receiving more than I expected from WBAC for a money-pit of an Alhambra I think they have a place in the market. Bizarrely I still walked away feeling ripped off dspite getting what I felt was a fair price.

I think the transaction fee and the premium for getting money out quickly put them down with RyanAir and EasyJet in customer perception.

I had a car with a few minor faults I wanted to get rid of. They offered me £185 (one hundred and eighty-five pounds) subject to inspection and on condition there was nothing wrong with it.

I described the car 100% honestly on ebay and sold it to the first person who viewed it - for £1,200 cash money.

In other words I got a hugely better price by selling it myself with virtually no hassle.

Well, in my opinion that's how the wbac business model works - rock bottom prices which are just a fraction above dealer trade-in. Gives you a choice of getting fleeced severely or getting fleeced nearly as severely.

Sure, selling privately involves some effort but I've never had a problem selling any of mine. A well presented car that's fairly described and sensibly priced shouldn't hang about for long.

"I will accept WBAC's valuation for my trade in, if you use their valuation for the new car!" smile
