What convertible? £5k or less

There are plenty of good Mk2.5s around - hell there are plenty of good Mk1's around !
The joy of MX5's is that they are cheap to fix so even if it needs the sills welding they cost less than £400 for a good job and respray both sides - front chassis rails are weldable too but I don't know the cost as I've never fixed any.
The 2.5 is far less fun but a "better" car than a Mk1, the Mk3 is the same to the Mk2.5 - if you want the most fun you want the oldest car you're willing to put up with.
I drive Mk1's - have done for 20yrs - I wouldn't want to use one as a daily any more but I did for many years. The later cars are certainly "better" cars less rattles / shakes and frequently faster but they aren't as much fun and if this is a weekend car surely that's the bit that matters.
I own around 20 cars - I'm having to sell them off to fund a new house - I've sold the 6 litre RX7 already, I will not be selling my supercharged MX5 - EVER !

Duly noted on MX-5s, ta. Not sure the wife's heart will take a supercharged MX-5 but its a nice thought... Main reason for selling the camaro is high speed scares her (especially in a LHD, as she's sat "on the driver's side" as a powerless passenger). Wouldn't bother me but does limit days out in the car if she won't come with me.

Having owned both a mk1 and a mk3.5 I'm not sure I agree with that, the mk3.5 was just as much fun as the mk1.The joy of MX5's is that they are cheap to fix so even if it needs the sills welding they cost less than £400 for a good job and respray both sides - front chassis rails are weldable too but I don't know the cost as I've never fixed any.

Given the rather confrontational nature of your post, I'm guessing you mean unintelligible?
I did say that I was a sample of one. But I stand by my assertion that the cost of running a Boxster is no better or worse than running any other car with comparable performance or original purchase price. But maybe you've got hard evidence that shows I'm wrong?
No mate. I meant what I said as either works in context.I did say that I was a sample of one. I've explained the evidence, someone else has repeated it, no minus the warranty statement. If you don't understand it I really don't care as the OP has grasped it.

Or maybe, you know, I have that odd thing called personal experience, rather than the received wisdom of the internet?I've explained the evidence, someone else has repeated it, no minus the warranty statement. If you don't understand it I really don't care as the OP has grasped it.

Give it a rest mate. I'm happy to defend and discuss the points I've raised but I'm not going to entertain an argument from authority. Certainly getting head swayed by the idea of a W129 SL - but the thought of anything major and costly going wrong is holding me back a bit. In the meantime, I have a 2007 MX-5 2 litre Sport to go and see tomorrow. 77k on the clock and priced at just under £5k. If its not for me, the search resumes!

If you are worried about it going bang you could always get a warranty, budget on a grand a year for warranty though.
Hmmm...probably more than I can really budget for, as a second car. Reckon that one might just have to stay as a dream. Although I guess if it all got too much, decent ones are always sellable.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
