I'm in the market for 4 x Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 235/45R18 98YXL

TyreGiant price - £121.60 (Joe Public website from a Google search)

PistonHeads/TyreGiant price - £121.70 (following the dedicated link at the front of this thread)

following the order process I find my nearest local fitting centre is Formula One Autocentre locally. All good, and I'd chosen fully fitted rather than delivery at the top of the page. But. There's no confirmation anywhere other than the four "featured tyres" at the top of the page that the price is definitely FULLY fitted, balanced and disposal included. This would help you, as I somehow managed to order the tyres (x 4) from Formula One Autocentres direct for £122.50 a pop.

So not ordering from TyreGiant has cost me £3.20/£3.60 depending on how you link to the site. But F1 Autocentre were VERY clear that this was the final, total price for fitted tyres, and they were available a day ahead of TyreGiant.

My point? Why is there 10p added to the 'special' PistonHeads price?

Why, aside from that little 10p error (presumably) does it not look like PH 'special' prices are any lower than those available to the general public? It appears to be exactly the same page with a banner across the top.

You'd need to be a fair bit cheaper, per tyre, than the competition, for me to be scrabbling around to cancel my current order to re-order from TyreGiant.

And now, even as I've typed this post, the duplicate (on both pages) of the tyre I wanted has been removed. Funnily enough it's the cheaper of the two listings for that tyre that has gone. Now your price is £123.00 per tyre for the PH link, and the non-PH google result alike. So I'm no longer sure whether I've saved myself £2.00, or cost myself £3.60?

Jeez. This tyre buying nonsense is hard work. If only someone could simplify the process, and offer PistonHeads forum members a genuinely reduced 'special price', so significantly lower that it'd be a no-brainer to order from them, then I think we'd all be onto a winner...

headache

ETA: I've now re-read the header article, and noticed mention of Discount Codes, and messaging 'Dopamine' direct. So maybe I'm being unfair, and TyreGiant might have been able to offer a discount. But I'm not a massive fan of buggering about with emails to beg for a 'discount' that's already been offered in a featured article on here. Nor is it great to be farting about with discount codes either, as i rarely pay that much attention to the PH newsletters when they hit my inbox. Can you not simply have a link whereby only logged-in PHers can access it, with a full suite of "lowest possible prices" already discounted. It may be naive of me, but it's how my little brain works. Ultimately I've entered into a contract now with another supplier, so it's by-the-by. I'm just trying to give a bit of honest feedback about how the process felt to me. I'm doing my best not to let it sound like a big whinge.

I was looking for a couple of tyres yesterday and there was 50p difference with black circle.unfortunately my cynicism tells me it's all smoke and mirrors..banner add promises a discount yet in reality it's all the same. As per above suggestion why not just simply create a discount code for the regular website.its 2015 ..surely can't be that hard.

See my post higher up re Adrian Flux.

In reality, there is no discount. It's an outright lie and PH are perpetrating it.

They could up their prices by 15% or whatever then offer a discount code but this would make them uncompetetive in the mainstream.

It's glorified clickbait.

I realise that pistonheads is a commercial entity that needs to make money so understand the need to enter into commercial partnerships

Where, like HD Adam I become cynical is when there is no discernible benefit for Pistonheads members. Don't mug me off by telling me I get a discount when I get the same price as Joe punter. A classic example of just how disjointed this supposed symbiotic relationship has become is Pistonheads tyres saying on the previous page they don't price match whilst pistonheads Ben lowndes saying in the tyregiant/pistonheads tyres competition that you should contact Dopamine for price matching!. Which is it?.

Why would I want to go through all that aggro just to match a price I can get elsewhere?.

I don't think I'm the only one feeling that way in general..I have noticed a marked fall off in traffic in the forums I respond to over the last 12 months

Hi Yellow Jack

Thanks for getting in touch and for your feedback.

We no longer offer discounts on our tyres as we already offer them at the best price we possibly can.

I am sorry for any disappointment that may have been caused.

Kind regards

OK. Thanks for the clarification.

It does sound a bit like my experience at a local bike shop.

Going in "to have a look" (ie: kill some time while the wife was getting her hair 'done') I got into a conversation with the "organ grinder" rather than one of his many monkeys. During the conversation, he happened to volunteer the information that he was now in a position to price match Shimano products from online sellers, due to some flexibility being offered in supply price by the UK distributor. Which was great.

Then, a week or so later, I needed a new chain, and gear cassette. No problem, I thought, dismissing the online "usual suspects" and riding off to the shop instead.

On getting there, and invoking the offer, the shop's PC was duly employed to check price and availability from the online seller, with a view to matching the price. Cue some frowning, and scratching of heads, and a shout for the boss to come onto the shop floor.

It turns out that now the claim has gone from a price-match, to "our very best price". Internet was too cheap for them to be able to match. Fair one, I don't expect to buy items lower than cost price, but if you even suspected that you might not be able to match a competitor's price, why claim to do so? And why, if you can offer me a "best price" significantly lower than your sticker price, why not offer that to me, as a regular (known by name) customer, without me having to barter for it. That only makes it feel like I've been taken for a mug for my desire to support a local business these past 10 years or so, and makes me more likely, rather than less likely, to simply slap the item name into Google and buy it from the cheapest of the faceless internet warehouses in future.

I know we're not comparing eggs with eggs here, and Tyre Giant is already competitive with other internet suppliers for some of their stock, but it's the same broad idea. Promise me a deal. A good deal. The best deal, even. Then string me along and let me find out for myself that there wasn't really a deal to be had at all. This may have started with the noblest of intentions, but it seems to have run out of steam along the way. Sadly, Tyre Giant will no longer be that "PistonHeads commercial partner" that's first on the list come new tyre time. It'll just be one of many tyre suppliers that may or may not get a look in, based solely on the price offered on a particular product.

If this is the reality should PH not update their original offer which specifically states that PHers will be getting a special discount?

Hmmm. I'm confused. So what's the point of any of it? Are they still 'sponsoring' the forum?

ie paying cash to advertise on PH, but don't actually offer PHers any benefits whatsoever, and, as can be seen above, are actually more expensive than the usual suspects?

From the PH article on page 1.

PH said:
A new deal between PistonHeads and Tyre Giant means PHers will be able to get the best prices on replacement rubber and a direct line to boss and keen PHer Travis Coleman - 'Dopamine' in the PH forums - for advice and feedback.

"Tyre Giant has always had an 'online price guarantee', but having been a member of the PH community for over a decade I would really like to get tyres to the PistonHeads community at lower prices than those we publish for the general public," says Travis. "We can do this through voucher codes that will go out in the PH newsletters and directly from me through people PMing me on the forum. I am also keen to develop the range on offer to meet some of the niche requirements of the PH community with specialist tyres for track days, classics and so on."
Can you just remove all the bks then mods/admins? I appreciate through commercial reasons TG may not be able to offer any discounts, but if that's the case the copy needs to be removed or updated to reflect the reality.

What we've been saying all along.

Now, pop over to the "certain insurance company" thread to see back pedaling and shenanigans.

Competition winner announcement

Over the course of September we ran a competition through Pistonheads tyres to win a set of Continental tyres up to the value of £500,

We would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone that took the time to enter. Unfortunately there can only be one winner, so without further ado we would like to say a massive congratulations to SpeedySped who has chosen to fit a set of 4 Continental Sport Contact 3’s to his 9-5.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Pistonheads community who have ordered tyres through Pistonheads Tyres site over the last year.

It was our vision from the outset to offer the cheapest tyre prices in the market, whilst offering excellent customer service and reliable impartial advice via this forum to improve the customer experience of buying tyres.
However due to unprecedented erosion in tyre prices, strong market competition and lower than anticipated users utilising the site we are unable to carry on offering discounts through the Pistonheads forum.

So it is with big regret that we will close this tyre forum at the end of October. For the time being the main site links will remain live linking to our parent site Tyre Giant so please stop by when you are looking for Tyres and hopefully we can still help out as our prices are still some of the most competitive out there.

So for now I'll take a bow and say farewell and happy motoring all PHers.

All the best,

Anthony @ PistonHeads Tyres.

Hi,

I hope you can help, I'm really struggling to find tyres for my TVR Chimaera.

The sizes I need are:

225/50/15 Fronts
245/45/16 Rears

Preferably Toyo Proxes T1-R but I'm close to settling for anything half decent as nowhere I've spoken to can find them.

I can find Nankans for the front but I don't want to go that far down the spectrum and in any case, I want to have the same tyres/tread pattern all round. I don't care about efficiency or noise but wet grip must be at least a C, preferably higher.
