RE: Renaultsport Clio 200 Cup: Spotted

Re the closing line of the article, "But for £7K, what other hot hatch would you have?", assuming we accept it has a hatchback, the best DC2 Integra Type R you can find. Probably for a bit less than £7K too.
I know the article is principally about the 200 but I had a nearly new 182 Trophy and now have an Integra with over 100,000 miles on it.
The Integra is in a different league and it's done 10x the mileage. Better engine, gearbox, seating position, material quality, lower centre of gravity, all of the control weights are just that bit better, it's a truly, truly astonishing car when wrung out.

Trophy is the better road car. 200 the better track car.
The trophy would munch through a bumpy b road whereas the 200 would be jittering away some way behind.
I'm not so sure, the general ride quality in my 200 Cup wasn't great, but it was deft and agile - and fairly composed when pressing on.The trophy would munch through a bumpy b road whereas the 200 would be jittering away some way behind.
My friend has an FN2 Type R on 19" wheels and the ride in that is worse imo, love the car though.
I had a racing blue 200 cup for almost 3 years before I got my GT86. I loved it. Averaged under 26mpg with mostly city driving. The ride was pretty firm but never too bad. Never had any problems with it. The recaros in mine didn't suffer from the bolster problems others had. It did have to be thrashed to get the most of it. Which is something I like about my 86. It feels more fun at all speeds.
Incidentally my 200 replaced a DC2, so I agree with the above poster about the seating position. Much lower than the 200. For some odd reason, the recaros actually sit higher than the standard seats. I don't agree that the integra is the vastly superior car though. The 200 was as much fun to drive. Doesn't sound as good though!

The 200 cup is a great car. It is a bit uncomfortable with the firmer ride but buy a standard 200 if you don't want this. Biggest disappointment for me was the noise. We got our exhaust manufacturer to develop a stainless exhaust and it has transformed the car. The standard exhaust is a typical manufacturer effort, large and sapping all power and noise. The replacement makes you want to rev the thing, it sounds fabulous and feels massively quicker. It's a vastly superior car to the 182 owned previously which we never quite got on with.

I've steered most cars from the ordinary to the sublime and can honestly say the 200 is right up there with the best. Lucky to own possibly the best, lowest mileage (2k),highest spec one in the UK. Kept an eye out for 2 years for a 'special one' and snapped it up with sort of notions that it should and could become collectable as last of line...
Got a 58 plate full fat 197 with the cup package. Everybody I give a lift to moans about the ride (especially those in the back) and the fit and finish is typical of a Renault, ie not very good. It's already had the synchro rings go on 4th gear but luckily it was under dealer warranty, but I love it. I never expected it to waft over bumps and quickly got used to crashing around, buzzing at 3500rpm at 70 and sub 30mpg. But what I love the most is that its a fairly raw and involved experience, the rattles and bangs on shoddily cabin just reassure me that car was designed for driving pleasure rather than sitting and cruising, anybody could get one on a decent B-road and I would challenge them not to love it.

The brembo brakes are a bit wallet wilting; rear pads £190 fitted, front disks and pads quoted at around the £450 mark.
I only got rid of mine last month as I've relocated to the city and thought it was cruel to waste it's talents, I'd highly recommend one, with the cup pack, to anyone that feels a real performance car puts excitement before green credentials.
Is that a typo?! New front discs and pads cost £450 fitted?! Not £150 at a main dealer with special Brembo discs made from milled unicorn horn?!I only got rid of mine last month as I've relocated to the city and thought it was cruel to waste it's talents, I'd highly recommend one, with the cup pack, to anyone that feels a real performance car puts excitement before green credentials.
