In which case it's odd that Aston would allow it to use the DB10 name, unless the next released car will be the DB11, skipping a number as they did with DB7-DB9?

Nothing about this on the AM website. This smacks of a cock-up.

Bizarre way to launch the car.

They let an airline launch the Rapide with an iPhone, and now this?

It seems thats the case. But if it's significant enough to make a big deal of at the launch of the film, surely it merits a mention on the website. Even if only to prevent confusion.

You generally don't show the next until you're ready to stop selling the current.

How many DB9 purchases might now be deferred in preparation for this (much nicer) car. That they can't sell yet.

Only just picked up on that last hashtag, it's a bit of a poke in the eye at Jaguar, even more cheeky considering the aforementioned similarities to the F-Type.

Feasible, but an odd decision. If they don't want people to get ready to buy this they should have called it Vestibule or Veronica.

DB10 definitely sends people down the 'new production model' route.

As someone said above, this announcement without clarification from AM could harm sales of the DB9. If I was in a position to purchase I'd certainly be holding on to my cash until rumours of an upcoming successor were confirmed or denied.

I'd wager that Aston's PR team are rather busy with press inquiries right now...

4 December 2014, Gaydon: Aston Martin together with EON Productions, the producers of the James Bond film franchise, unveiled Bond’s stunning new car, the Aston Martin DB10, on the 007 stage at Pinewood Studios.

The luxury British sports car brand is delighted to confirm that James Bond will once again drive an Aston Martin in Spectre. On this occasion, it will be a model developed specifically for the film and built in-house by the brand’s design and engineering teams.

Led by Aston Martin Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman, the design team worked closely with the film’s director, Sam Mendes, to create the ultimate car for the world’s most famous spy.

Celebrating the great British brand’s half century with Bond, which started with the iconic DB5, the DB10 gives a glimpse to the future design direction for the next generation of Aston Martins.

Dr Andy Palmer, CEO of Aston Martin, said: “In the same year that we celebrate our 50-year relationship with 007, it seems doubly fitting that today we unveiled this wonderful new sports car created especially for James Bond.

“To be partnering once again with EON Productions is great news for this company and for everyone around the world that loves to see Bond at the wheel of an Aston Martin.

“I’m incredibly proud of everyone in the team at Gaydon who have brought this special project from concept to reality.”

Production will be strictly limited to 10 of the bespoke sports cars, developed and built by the designers, engineers and highly skilled craftspeople at Aston Martin’s Gaydon headquarters.

Spectre is due for general release on 6 November 2015.

Front end looks to have taken some inspiration from the new MX5.

Looks gorgeous
no way would they do this just for the film
The film is out next November, so by amazing coincidence, the new model (DB10 or whatever it will be called) will be released about the same time

Well that answers the question. How odd to call it a DB10 and start such speculation!

I guess AM can now gauge the reaction to the design and decide what to carry forward.

In other Bond news, some websites are getting in a tizzy over Bond apparently driving a Fiat 500. It's rumoured to be a car chase around Rome.

Sounds a bit Italian Job to me.

I just hope Spectre is a better film than Skyfall.

I heard, it'll feature Dave Batista (that huge wrestler) and Monica Belucci...

Very Mazda-esque front end!

I don't really like Aston Martin in general, tried to, just never felt good in one. Though I did admire a couple of the models at Geneva '14. This does not do much for me however, even on looks alone.

Exactly. It's like one of Tony Blair's soft launches, sneak an idea to the media and if the public like it then you do it.

However, I can't help thinking they've just paid millions to help JLR promote the F Type. It seems a bit of a shot in the foot to try and mock JLR via a # and then unveil a car which to many looks like a Chinese knock off of an F Type.

Strange.

Really? The only similarity I can see between the two is the crease near the bottom of the door.

ETA: Oh, and four wheels.

front end looks similar to me, shape of the lights and the bumper being blank apart from the central intake
