Poorly boxster
Discussion
Hi can anyone help shed light on why my Porsche Boxster 03 manual has started pouring oil out the back? The engine warning light came on then off again and it sounded really roughy. Hubby was driving it home having had rear wheels changed. Otherwise all was good in great condition. Awaiting recovery vehicle, a kindly Porsche driver passing by suggested it might need a new engine?! Any ideas?

I thought Cameron was a blokes name. Civil partnership then?It just be the RMS has let go spectacularly. It's quite rare, but can happen. It's about an £800 / £900 fix, as it's an engine out job.
If you can get it to these guys, they really know their onions http://www.hartech.org/

Depends on the symptoms, but does sound a bit like the IMS bearing failure that keeps us Boxster owners awake at night.
I know it's all celebrity glitz in this link - ignore all the paparazzi rubbish and the banal comments below, it's actually an example of what this sort of failure can look like:

If it was just an oil leak - yeah maybe it might be connected to the wheel change (though VERY doubtful)
However, an oil leak and a very sick sounding engine is most likely to be a coincidental but fundamental issue with it rather than a ham fisted fitter.
These engines have a number of weak spots - and I am afraid some are ruinously expensive to rectify as per the comments about being kept awake at night. If it was just the oil leak I'd agree with the RMS - but to be sounding rough too? I'd have thought an IMS bearing failure would kill the engine stone dead unless others have more experience (sympathies if so)
Either way - yes - Hartech are very good at this kind of thing. Remote diagnosis is not easy!

If an IMS let go, the entire engine would just seize up in a spectacular fashion. Rough running points to a loss of oil pressure (complete RMS failure...very rare) or lots of oil getting into the intake (Air oil separator)I know it's all celebrity glitz in this link - ignore all the paparazzi rubbish and the banal comments below, it's actually an example of what this sort of failure can look like:
