Great thread.

Find myself strangely drawn to that Bentley.

Seems quite cheap for an S2
Realistic rather than cheap I'd say. It is due a belts service and water pump change, and at that age it has either had a recent head gasket and general top-end overhaul not mentioned in the history, or is due one. The chain between the two camshafts, its tensioner, and the camshaft sprockets, also need inspection and regular replacement on the S2, as when that lot wear out you need to replace both camshafts, which is pricey.

I would want to see pictures of the inside of the sills before going a long way to view. The advert saying they've been rubbed down and repainted is all well and good if they had external stone chips where surface rust had started, but the sills very often rot from the inside out.

So is this true for any car no matter the age?

BMW e30 or e21
Triumph Toledo or Dolly
Riley Elf
Mini-Minor
Ford Pop
Mk1 Escort
Yes pretty much.

This may be more suited to the Barges 1-5 thread, but this seems like an utter bargain

Now that's a much better buy than that E23.
Undoubtedly! I just love the shape of the e23 and can't help admire a clean looking one!

My friends Mum bought a new Williams 2 back in the day, I remember gettimg the chance to take it for a spin when I was about 18. I had a mk2 Golf GTI at the time, the Clio felt so much better in every way. Do it!

The Mk3 Escort really, to most people I would say, has none of these things. Particularly the boggo spec one quoted pages back.
It was a 1.6 Ghia, which would make it a top of the range model would it not? With similar performance to the XR, just less sportily focused.
Not really similar performance. The 1.6 Ghia made 78 bhp according to Ford while the XR3 made 95 and the XR3i made 103. The XR3 was also considered to be a bit of a dog anyway.
So with a 25 bhp deficiet to the XR3i I very much doubt it had similar performance.

very interesting car, prefer the crinklier S1.
That example is a condition-basket-case though.

Fantastic. I love the SLC, and I love 70s brown and velour. I'm glad it's a long way from me because otherwise I might have taken a punt on it, and these can be very expensive follies.

More of them there are of these... Not a single one for sale in the UK and how many left says there are only 3 of the 4wds left on the road and less than 150 of all models!

A rather special car, that. I'd be tempted to turn it into the 'Espace shuttle' for a fun trip to Le Mans, though.
