1,000 posts, well done everyone!
Thanks for starting it, one of my favourite threads on PH.
+1!

Thanks for starting it! It is definitely my favourite thread on PH by a country mile.
Agreed, I'm checking this thread every time I open PH!
Absolutely, it's full of all the cars I wanted when I was 12 but at prices I could actually afford! Dangerous stuff indeed.

I think this looks rather lovely (and the turbo posted a while back also looks brilliant):

So true about, "all the cars I wanted when I was 12!"

The earlier CX is a beautiful thing. The facelift brutalised them.

For "brutalised", read "made them look all 80s".

Holy crap! If that's a decent car that is remarkable isn't it?

Nice 928S? I know nothing about these so it's a genuine question!

They're fabulous cars. When I was a kid, one of my late father's business partners had one. He was a big Porsche fan and owner a string of them, mostly 911s. About 1981, he traded his 928S in for an Audi Quattro. I was very keen to ride in it as they were hugely hyped. By God, what a let down the thing was after the Porsche. It has (probably unfairly) coloured my perception of the Quattro ever since.

Seeing this, I'd love a 928. I'm just too scant of wallet.

It's a nice enough car but i'm not sure it's worth the premium over standard E36 325i. The B2.5 wasn't a proper factory Alpina, but a conversion done by Sytner to a standard 325i. A few engine mods, some bodystyling/wheels and uprated suspension. They are not that well regarded in Alpina circles and given that a proper Alpina B3 isn't exactly expensive these days and has more power and stronger residuals, i'd be looking for one of them. Admittedly you'll struggle to get a manual Alpina. The E36 B3 had a 3.0 engine with around 250 bhp, compared to the 220 bhp from the tuned 2.5 lump in the B2.5.

Perfect example of a car about which no-one can tell anything from a photograph. It might be lovely, it might need a £15K refurb to be as it should be.

There is not much love for the old allegro, but I had one and have fond memories. :-)

Look at those precision, knife edge panel gaps. Came out the factory like that, not moved more than an inch since biglaugh

Coming to this thread very late but having fun working my way through! This one stinks though - plate is 'wrong' (1967 plate on a 1978ish car, and not obviously a private plate) - and plate 'not known' on databases....I would be very wary...

I will also admit to my fandom of this thread. Lets just say it's a fantastic thing that I have no money!

Although I would be willing to hock some stuff for that beautiful old jaaaag back on page 50, looks like an absolute minter.

My prefs are 80 posts per page, so I'm 'only' up to page 13 smile

I think that's an Isle of Man plate rather than a UK one (hence the MN). Their age letters where totally out of sync with ours.
