Guess the car from the upholstery!

I'm going for Vauxhall/Opel.

Shouldn't you be on the lash somewhere?
I thought the same initially but now want to go for Alfa/Lancia.

ETA: Just clicked the link, should have stuck to first instinct.

D'uh, I never thought to actually click the link, but that makes me doubly delighted to get it right. I worked for a chap in the late 70s/early 80s that was into his big Vauxhalls and I recognised the seats!

I think that makes me utterly tragic!

My dad had one like that. It was crap, but he thought it was brilliant. Then he had a diesel Montego which was surprisingly a lot better!

I suspect when the seller says ring for the detail that means expensive to sort.

I shouldn't like this, but I do http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Granada-Scorpio-2-9...

These were good! The first car I ever sampled with reclining rear seats. You could get incredibly good options for the era. Who buys average brand large saloon cars like the Vauxhall Senator and Carlton and Ford Granada Scorpio now?

It had to be a Senator or Royale - the rear side windows are really distinctive. I thought they had a wood strip on the door. Maybe that was the original version, rather than facelifted cars like this one?

So, within three pages this has just become a duplicate of the existing £1-5K barge thread. Does it, in fact, have a point?
I don't agree. smile

There is a lot of variety in this thread - the £1-5k barge thread is pretty much for Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts. There are runs of pages there with nothing else posted.

They (at least the Senator 'A'/Royale) were in a different market though. They were similar money to a Mercedes E class back in the eighties.

They're all small cars now though! I parked my Jag next to a Vauxhall Astra a while back: the Astra towered over it!

There is an inordinate amount of discussion of 1989 E-Classes which really were and are nowhere near as good as the owners and enthusiasts make out!

To be fair we do sometimes go crazy and discuss the odd rogue 90/91 model laugh

I like this thread, and am a regular poster on 1-5, and I do think they are quite different. As for your comments on 1-5, that's not really the whole picture, is it? It's hardly exclusively wall-to-wall MBs, and there are plenty of Jags, Audis, BMs and Lexus. You are, almost by definition, somewhat restricted by the 'barge' bit to relatively few marques.

The point is, you can post what you like; if you get bored with mercs, post something different that you do like. Forums depend on the contributors don't they, so contribute.

I like both threads, and admittedly it's not all Mercedes. My comment was tongue-in-cheek. I quite like Mercedes anyway.

I had one and it was crap. Slow as fk. The 1.6 Cavalier would run rings round it.
