Guess the car from the upholstery!

I'm going for Vauxhall/Opel.

Shouldn't you be on the lash somewhere?
I don't really do New Year - I'm drinking a pint of mild in a local real ale pub and browsing old cars before heading home for midnight. What could be better?!

So, within three pages this has just become a duplicate of the existing £1-5K barge thread. Does it, in fact, have a point?
I don't agree. smile

There is a lot of variety in this thread - the £1-5k barge thread is pretty much for Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts. There are runs of pages there with nothing else posted.
Yes the barge thread is brilliant, isn't it!

There is an inordinate amount of discussion of 1989 E-Classes which really were and are nowhere near as good as the owners and enthusiasts make out!
To be fair we do sometimes go crazy and discuss the odd rogue 90/91 model laugh

I like this 47k maestro van. These things were common back in the day. My parents had a maestro that did 110k miles (purchased at 5k) without issue aside from the inevitable rusty arches! http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C571913#

I love that, a great shape and proper shark-nose-ness. It would have to go back onto some period wheels though.

I wonder if the wheels suffer from that old BMW tyre availability issue?

Perhaps worth more than budget but isn't this a cool retro city car!

Another proper 3 box car. Once common, now very rare (probably for a good reason).

Slightly different, and with a very striking colour combination!

yes they are , just shows how cars have bloated over the last 25 years
My merc 300e feels like a reasonably big car on the inside, but park behind something like a newish clio and it looks really narrow and short. I guess I get the extra interior space, but also come off far worse in a crash!

14.5k mile escort. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Escort-Mk3-1-3L-Onl...

I'm so sad - I enjoy looking at the interior photos and how familiar they look from brief journeys I had in these as a kid!

I posted this a while back on the barge thread, now down to £1500 asking. I was all set to go and see it today, but really must resist. It's an estate I need.
That looks lovely. Do you have a link?

Very nice indeed. It's might be the wrong '25 engine (I am not that much of a beard), but it's a six cylinder E34 with rare leather, low miles, and in a nice colour. For a bargain price.

Retro estate and a great ad - £1,650. I'd so have one of these over a modern diesel estate! http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C573781#

No air con.

Mine had great steering feel and ride comfort, even on 'Alpinini' 18" wheels.
What a tart I was to get rid of it,
I would prefer air con, but at £1,500 with those miles that is incredible value.

+1 that's a proper Audi. I wish they still made cool cars like that.
Agreed. I can still recall the sound of the door slamming on an old Audi 80 that I grew up with. Proper build quality.

I am quite aware that these were never thought of as very good (and are probably terrifying to run now, given Audi's lack of enthusiasm for supporting their back-catalogue) but I've always had a hankering for one of these:

Probably not this one though - as it smells knackered and is a dreadful colour. I'm quite convinced there's a reason why we don't have any photos of the front seats / dash. Even better would be an early 80s 200 turbo (the square one) but I think there are about 3 left running in the UK :-(
Wow, that must be really rare. I didn't know they made a 4.2 - is it the same engine as the later A8s?

Nasty stereo and bad pictures, as you say.

Reading this thread for the first time (a great thread by the way) it reminded me that a few years ago I purchased a stop gap car, a 1989 4 door Audi 80 Sport. It was standard, and equipped with Recaro style front seats, BBS split rims, leather steering wheel, electric windows and roof and pretty much unscratched bodywork. And I loved the ways the doors closed with a resounding "thunk". It was cheap (£350 I think) and as such I pussyfooted it around everywhere, trying to prolong it's life until something I wanted came up, which it did, so the 80 went up for sale.

A potential buyer came and had a look at it, and I agreed he could test drive it. He hammered it from the second he god behind the wheel, chucking it around the local lanes, red lining it in every gear. It was great and I was gutted that I never drove it like this.

I can't find any photos of one on the internet, so presume the Sport model wasn't popular. I have just obtained a W124 Merc, but if I could find an 80 Sport as cheaply, I'd have it.
Show us the W124 please! What engine does it have?
