Hi folks,Long time lurker, just registered. My brother (Johnnytheboy) and Dad (AAGR) are both members here.
Thought you´d like to know I just bought this. Remarkably nice thing, not let down by its high mileage. Absolutely original apart from a Sony stereo, I went to see it yesterday morning, did a deal and drove it the 30 miles home through rain and M25 traffic without it missing a beat.
OK it needs a bit of TLC, but it is 25 years old...
And the previous owner was a gentleman. He had bought it for his son to take to university, but apparently it wasn´t good enough (!)
This looks quite a clean R5 campus running 180bhp.

The wheels in the magazine features are much nicer.
I thought thatThat's a really nice car though, although I think the price is a little strong

I have felt for a while that we need a thread for all those random interesting possible purchases - not quite classic perhaps, but old & retro and interesting for whatever reason. The £5k limit keeps it to what the average person can buy.
Since £5k is the average price spent on a car by Joe Public anyway.....it's the perfect modern via 80's retro debate. I think older cars just have more character and since there are fewer of them they have more presence on the road, as opposed to your average Euro/Jap econobox for the same money.Strawman said:
I sort of see the sleeper appeal, a cavalier than can outpace an e46 M3
I'd be very surprised if a 315bhp eighties Cavalier would outpace an e46 M3 anywhere. The beemer has more power and a much better handling chassis. I presume the Cav would be a fair bit lighter, but still, against the M3? I can't see it myself. 4737 Carlin said:
