£1750

Nice to see original wheels

For some odd reason I like this.

This is old, but in no way a classic. They really don't have any redeeming features; They are rough, rusty, old fashioned, blandly styled, cheap and mass-produced. In my humble opinion there's no place in this thread for a MK3 Escort.
Agreed. I have had 2 in the family: an Orion (horrific) and an RS Turbo (horrific, but oddly cool).

Terrible cars, best forgotten.

My first car !

Same colour too, we bought it for £350.

TBH compared to mate's 1.0 cars it was great and it turns out you can get 12 teenagers in one.

Mention the CVH and most condemn it.

It wasn't THAT bad.

I owned 8 cars with it fitted.
It was Model-T tech for its era, just look at what other manufacturers were producing in comparison at the same time. It was a cheap mass produced low tech boat anchor in it time.
My friend had a modded XR2 which went very well. I think the cheapest bang for your buck is to ditch the hydraulic followers as these squish at high revs and give less valve movement and therefore stop them revving.
3 of my 8 were RS1600is,so solid lifters fitted meant rev the bejesus out of them....yes

Yeah my mate had one of these too. Really surprising how well they rev when you're used to usual choked rubbish.

I remember 20 years back the classifieds in the back of fast Ford and Cars and Car Conversions magazines were filled with RS1600s from ropey ones to minters going for £10k+. These days you very rarely see one on the road. It was a similar story with the Chevette HS/HSR.

I've been a car nut since I was 8 or 9 in the late 70s. I've collected brochures on all sorts including Vauxhalls of the era. The high performance Chevette slipped well under my radar. I only found out about them a few years ago. Since then I've only seen one, and that was at a car show.

We're they basically GM's Sunbeam Lotus?

Yes, pretty much.

The HS/HSR were Homologation specials.

Whats so special about the granada? Seems very good money for rust. Or is it the VIN thats of value?

There is an outside chance that somebody may want to restore it as it is the rare 'Chasseur' limited edition, however in all likelihood it will find its way on to the banger track.

My dad wanted one a few years ago, but I don't think he does now.

Nah, surely you wouldn't bother putting that on a banger track now. None running and massively rusty...certainly more fun you can have for £4-500 on a banger racing track, with far less effort? More likely a value in the VIN?

What would these be like as a daily driver.
I know they are not the quickest diesel but they have a certain appeal.

Very vague steering and manual gear change compared to anything built in the last 20 years.
Describing these as slow is being very kind.

Great ride quality and character and extremely tough and robust.
Oh yeah, 40mpg is a pipe dream.

Just back from Marrakech with a renewed love for the W123 as they still account for about 60% of the taxis (followed by the w126 then the 124) unfortunately the replacements now seem to be some little Dacia saloon we don't get here.

The linked car looks very good and it's in Glasgow!

I don't think it looks as immaculate as the seller suggests or is it just me.

2 litre, non quattro and Auto - I wouldn't buy it even if it was brand new.
